Wow. Google is doing that too! I usually dictate right into my iPhone and it does the same thing. Thanks for the information.

That's interesting news. Thanks for sharing it. I wonder how accurate it is and if it learns?

It works very well. Do you mean learn your voice so it's more accurate?

Dragon Dictate is really expensive, they'll be pissed at Google making them obsolete!

I wonder if these bells and whistles will lead to Google Docs going to a subscription based model.

Probably not, but they won't go as "fully featured" as Dragon does - but I think Dragon is a bit over the top for most users. No more than Freemium, I hope.

Boy, the writing on the wall is really there for Dragon, isn't it? And it is not good news for them. They need to be thinking of a new direction or some other way to capitalize on their user base if Google is going to give this out for free which they likely will as they would not charge for the keyboard interface to their software and this is just another variation of input device.

Back in the late 1980's/early 1990's, I sold Dragon a pattern recognition tool for their R&D engineers that included a neural network component for learning. It was the same tool that was used for pattern recognition engineering by the spy satellite guys (and grocery store bar code scanners, too, of course.) You really had to spend hours training the tool before it could be productive for any one person back then. The technology has come a loooong way since then, of course.

I finally got around to giving it a go and I'm most impressed

Lack of punctuation means I'd need to go back and edit and it dropped a few words. It put in words like exterior and then changed them to Xterra which I thought was very slick, knew local place names like Takapuna and Smales Farm.

I wouldn't use it for anything simple because my typing is pretty fast but it's a good option for longer documents that you don't mind editing afterwards.

You can also say "period" and "new line" to format the document a little better.

Not sure if you threw in "bloody hell" because it's Aussie slang hmm. If you intentionally did that, I may have to give this voice to text another test run lol.

The bloody hell was intentional and Kiwis use it too. I was just so impressed by what it had done up to that point. I should have put in a period and I tested that after Smales Farm when I said "full stop" which is English for period ;)
