How to Avoid Duplicate Content on a Recipe Website

Discussion in 'SEO' started by Matthew Sayle, Jun 20, 2015.

I am running a "mandarin cuisine" recipes website.

How can I add recipes to the site without "stealing" recipes from other websites.

I mean, realistically I can't come up with completely unique recipes for each dish.

Are world-renowned chefs the only people that can successfully operate a recipes website?

Any ideas on legal, white-hat content generation?

Recipes aren't covered by copyright, so there is no legal consequences to having similar recipes. Just make sure you create your own "how to" for each recipe, and you should be fine.

Great minds think alike - that's exactly what I decided to do.

    Thanks!

Don't make it complex, Recipes are almost same on all websites but the method of presentation and writing should be different. Write content naturally and add pictures and videos to make it real different from others.

You not need to change your recepie but you can change your writing style to avoid duplicate content.

You should have a unique approach to cooking. If you somehow make it personal, that would be great, because people love that. Also, you should have unique images, mouthwatering :) and videos, too, with some hacks, if possible. That's what I would like to see.

I agree with PoPSiCle, but one thing you should keep in mind is that Titles in copy can be copyrighted. Just change up the title, and alter the recipes a little bit, and you'll be fine.

Anyone can operate a recipes website, and again, any minor alteration you make to the gov means you're in the clear.

    Hi Eli,
it's correct the way you said,
but the other side you have very dangerous.
if search engines find your website uses some other website contents, it will be resulted penalized by Google and resulted in lower ranking

I understand what you mean, that's why all methods used with On-Page and Off-Page optimization must be "White Hat" methods, so Google will love your website and rank it higher (or at least hold your rank depending on the level of optimization and competition. Depending on your methods, both On and Off-Page optimization can be dangerous or very rewarding.
