Direct channel & 404 page

    I'm new to analytics and find it all a bit overwhelming. My first question is with the data under Acquisitions>Channels>Direct. Direct means that the user entered that URL directly in their address bar, correct? So why would my custom 404 page end up 2nd in the results? Are they actually entering the URL of my custom 404 page or are they entering another URL which is not found? Is there a way to find out what they are entering in order to arrive at this URL?
