Hi All, We've just been through and updated the lists for December. 84 new General directories have been added. As well as quite a few new niche directories, and new categories covering CSE's, Flash, Home & Garden, Martial Arts, SEO Contests and some new regions. Rather than paste another bucketload of directories in a list format, I'd like to point out a chunk of directories that were removed from the list because they are broken: http://thewebdirectory.us/ (no categories showing) - 03/10/06 http://www.onestoplinkshop.com/ (broken categorisation and display) - 15/10/06 http://www.seoplanet.net/linkexchange/ (mysql errors) - 15/10/06 http://www.majesticdirectory.com/ (mysql errors) - 14/11/06 http://www.seo-team.org/ (submit link broken) - 23/11/06 http://links.seo-solution.net/ (broken categorisation) - 29/11/06 I've supplied the URL, (the reason they are broken) and the date they have been flagged as having this problem. We do give people ample time to fix the glitches on their directories, and in most cases we contact the owner to let them know that their directory is experiencing problems. These are good directories that we have been forced to remove because they haven't been fixed, and in most cases the fix will probably be something very simple. TIP: If your site's index page works, but the categorisation is bringing up 404 errors, then in all likelihood the mod_rewriting you have done to make your URLs search engine friendly has been done incorrectly in your .htaccess file. The difficulty with this error is that the directory owner may not notice it, because whilst the display of categories is affected (and hence no humans or spiders can access those pages), people can still submit and navigate to their category through the drop-down box on the submission form. Since the directory owner is still seeing submissions come through they are often unaware their directory is broken. If you make changes to your .htaccess file, always double-check that they worked, or your directory might be broken for 6 months before you realise it
Thanks a lot for your effort. Because of your website, many directories have more exposure to webmasters. I am glad that my free directory listed.
So, that's why we haven't seen you around much - thanks for the update and all of your hard work! It really makes a difference to many webmasters.
Weren't you planning on capping the list and not adding new directories? I could have sworn I read a post about that...
i contacted via email today about adding my directory http://www.justanotherlink.com/d/ (it has now gone completly free)
Excellent job! I always said this is the best directories list online! You may want to add www.AdvertisingDirectory.eu and www.E--Links.com These two has been online for a while but they always missed the inclusion Thank You
Cool update Dan! It must be a pain in the ass to categorized all those web directories and do a follow up , Yet its a pain in the ass to run a free directory.... Congrats!!!! xD
The cap I spoke about was 500 directories. There aren't that many on the list at the moment. It's not so much that I won't be adding new directories, its more about encouraging quality, so that the best new directories will be added
You've done a wonderful job with your consistency over the last couple of years and have been a great benefit to all.
For those trying to suggest their dirs in this thread -- may I suggest that you navigate to Dan's site and use the proper thread in the forum there. You will most likely have a much better shot at getting in
