Blog name too similar sounding to others

    Hey there!
I'm new on this site. I just recently decided to try my hand at blogging. I'm not in it to make my millions or anything, but I recently graduated with a master's degree in wildlife biology and I miss writing. I want to try my hand at a new writing style, and if I can make a couple bucks off it, then super.

Anyways, I want to make a blog about knitting. I thought of the perfect name for the blog - Knit Nerd Lab. I'm coming from a science background (hence the "lab" part), and I think it sounds catchy. There are a few other names that sound similar though, and I'm wondering if I should consider other blog names instead. Other similar-sounding names include Knit Nerd, Knit Lab, and The Knitter Nerd. There are all variations of Knit and Nerd, but no one's got my name idea yet. BTW, it took me about a month just to think up of this name because there are about a million knitting blogs. Most, however, seem to be somewhat unprofessional-looking or owners have not kept up with the site.

What do you think? Is this name OK or should I think of another one?

    Thank you!

I like it and I'm a Ravelry user so potentially in your target market. I would want to check those other sites and ensure you have a "point of difference" from them that goes beyond upkeep and professionalism. You could always flip the words around and be the Nerdy Knitter.

If you go with Knit Nerd Lab I'd imagine you'll have experimental projects and info about meddling with patterns.

What are the type of contents you are planning to include in that blog? If they be some tutorials or tips (taking the hint from the word "Lab") then I'd suggest it would be better if the domain name suggests so...for example the name which struck me is "knitWithATwist.com...just a thought...

Caveat: I don't know the slightest bit about knitting, though I do possess some hand-knitted items. :) Of course, this won't stop me from commenting. ;)

When I read "Knit Nerd Lab" I immediately assumed that it would involve technology (perhaps computer designs?) and experimentation (new materials, new tools, etc.) If your blog is going to touch on these topics regularly, I think that it is a good name and probably a good differentiator.

The name sounds OK. But can I ask you what is your target group? Are you going to teach how to knit, present new trends in knitting or give some specialist tips?

btw, wildlife biology and knitting - what a combination! I'm impressed and wish you well on your way.

    Thanks everyone!

Yes, I plan to include informative articles about knitting. For example, I had some ideas that included a regular column about different fiber types (Fiber Fridays), tutorials and tips, and even some mini scientific studies, such as what type of knitting needle material do people knit fastest with?

My target demographics are young, energetic knitters. There seems to be a knitting revival going on and it's become the new cool thing to do again.
