is it legal to sell an email list?

If you have a company that aquired that many e-mails Why not try to sell something legal
to them , also send them to an opt out address and let them know you intend to sell there
addresses because you have 200 million,who does your mailling.
freshlifeministries.us has 2,968,000 it take me about a week to send out.
legal or not just dont do it.
I have around 300 domains i host i make 30,000 a month
stop fooling around with mails and get a job.

 

If you have the agreement from the email owners to share them with 3rt party then it`s legal if not then it`s Illegal .. be sure what you have..
If you have a service for people modify your privacy policies and add a line where you ask them for agree to share their email .. most of them will not read a long long text .. most of them will agree from the begining witout read that. and you can sell it .. but make sure what you got and who you sell .. make a contract

Say for example...I bought a email list from somebody over internet. It gives me timestamp, IP and website where they opt in..

Now can i sell? or use that email list...

ofcourse i am not going to spam all the people but can get good leads as per demographic areas or zip codes etc?

I think that not legal unless you get the permission from them. But i still can find out that lot of portal do like to sold their customer email and help us to blast newsletter. It usually is illegal but yet company would mostly like to look for customer base contact to help in their business.

 

In the US it is most likely illegal, under the CAN-SPAM Act of 2003. So, if you're in the US, don't risk it.

 

This you need their permission and in most countries it's illegal US, UK and probably Canada and Australia also follow it.

Personally, I've never bought or sold an email list, but I have traded my contacts with a local computer shop. Since they don't do web design, it works out for both of us. I don't see anything wrong with it and when someone asks to unsubscribe, I honor that request.

 

Like everyone else is saying, it's legal if the subscriber consents to a distribution list. However, people will not usually buy from a person emailing them who they don't know.
