    Wanted to see what others thought about the .io extension. Is gaining some steam and creating quite a buzz in the tech industry. Many new startups are using the extension, here are some reasons why:

    The Benefits of Using a .IO:

    1. It’s a unique extension compared to generic TLDs, which can help a startup stand out from a marketing perspective.
    2. It’s shorter than three-letter gTLDs, while being different, which makes it easy to remember.
    3. It’s just starting to become popular, which means it’s pretty likely you’ll get the name you want.
    4. In the tech and software development world, I/O means input/output, so .IO is particularly relevant to that audience.
    5. You can create cool domain hacks with .IO, like scenar.IO or pistach.IO.

    I don't have any .io domains. They cost a significant amount to register. Someday, maybe ... when I've done a little better for myself with the .com domains that I have in my portfolio. I recognize the trend with .io domains though. I listened to a recent DomainSherpa episode and the host said he had sold seo.io and php.io for a nice sum, which doesn't surprise me at all. However, I'm not sure how .io domains that are not in some way tech industry related would do. My guess is that they wouldn't be near as popular or successful. bedspreads.io? Hmm...

    yep £70 a year from 123-reg. possibly a bit cheaper elsewhere but still a big investment.

    although as above the I-O inidcator makes it a nice sounding domain and it has tech connotations

    We registered China.IO 10 years ago (2015-07-21), not sure about whether "Country Name + .IO" can still be registered now or not.

    Apart from, its input/output meaning. There is one big thing of .io domain is it gives the word great pronunciation, for example:

    Name.io = Nameio
    Book.io = Bookio
    Money.io = Moneyio
    Cheap.io = Cheapio
    Sell.io = Sellio
    Discount.io = Discountio
