Finding out what I should pay for a designer

I have a multitude of ideas ready to go. I came across a website that would really fit my needs based on my crazy brains idea. My questions is, how do I know what a website design is worth. I have no idea on what kind of back end programming goes into certain sites. I cam across a website earlier and the design and functionality is almost exactly what I'm looking for.

    http://www.everydiet.org

Is there a way to tell how it's coded and what goes into from my point of view?

How much would a cookie cutter site like that cost me? I just need the shell, all the data and content will be added and formatted by me.

Thanks in advance for listening, to a question you've heard a thousand times!

If you are looking to buy an existing site you could use http://www.siteprice.org/ to estimate its value. If you are looking to have a site built, you will need to develop some pretty detail requirements before anyone could give you a realistic estimate.

    Thanks for your reply Cobol.

I guess even the details escape me. The website I referenced above...I'm interested in the simplistic design and functionality of it. But details wise...Lets say it's another diet site that I want to copy exactly. Is it an SQL based SB programmed site? HTML5. When I'm buiding a site description, how do I explain that I want a website like everydiet.com without the content. Is this a list template? A DB...is programming involved?

Your talking to a guy who repairs handguns and wanders the desert for fun :) I'm literally pretty much dipping my toes in this type of water for the first time. Please bare with my noobyness :)

What are the most important details I need to make designers aware of?

Any advice is greatly appreciated and will be gone over with a fine tooth comb.

The design is nothing, it is the technical detail that will be required. Saying I want a site like "that". Just means detailed analysis of "that" will be required to determine what work is required to build a version if it. If you don't have the technical chops to do details you have two options Make yourself a target for crooks who will promise you anything to get up front oney then screw you big time. OR; you hire a business consultant with Internet design experience to help you define the requirements at a technical level that will allow you to get estimates from professional developers.

If you are in business you probably have a banker who may be able to point you to someone, or you might already have a customer in the business consulting business.
