How has 2015 been? It's been nearly 50 days since we last made those New Year's resolutions, and I hope you're currently on track to achieve them (else it's still not too late!).

I've been meeting clients from diverse backgrounds & industries over the last couple of weeks and learnt some of the marketing challenges they're currently facing. From having lack of resources (manpower/finances) to being confused by all the technical jargon, it is clear to me that some of these hurdles can be easily overcome by having access to the right resources.

    What about you?
What is your biggest digital marketing challenge?

Let's make this an active discussion! :)

In the past most IMers relied on the popular search engines to grow their businesses. It's not a viable option for the majority of IMers anymore. Unless you have a product that people want like hot cakes, paid advertising may become nothing but a waste of time and money. Might as well just flush a bunch of cash down the toilet drain. But it is still a viable option in a lot of cases, I should admit.

What's left... Social media growth hacks. But it required SOOOOO much time. I guess, I will choose your #3: Lack of time to keep up with the changes.

Thanks for the reply! Well I think Digital Marketing & Internet Marketing are different, but I guess the 3 choices apply to both fields.

I'd say that your traffic sources depend on the path you want to take:
    a) Are you building your own brand and putting your name out there?
    b) Or are you using a pseudonym?

My main challenge is to grow my membership website subscribers to 1000. I am testing new traffic sources, improving the value and building relationships with my new customers.

My challenge is to find and engage Data Center Managers, Network Managers, etc., without spending tens of thousands or even hundreds of thousands of dollars. I can't advertise on the big webzines due to cost.

I'd advise you to go big on Facebook to build awareness and engage with your target audience. Digital Marketer (by Ryan Deiss) does this best by supplementing its membership site with a highly engaging & informative Facebook group.

Have you tried LinkedIn? I think that is the best way to connect and reach out to more skilled professionals.

I tried advertising on linkedin and also tried getting involved on various IT forums. Admittedly, these were only small efforts, but they yielded absolutely nothing, so I did not bother to continue. Thanks for the input, however.

    Thank you for this idea!
I'm representing a software company that soon will release the new tool for the SEO market and we will eventually try to get some beta testers from dedicated SEO experts, mainly from USA.
That's why I'm on this forum, to do some research.
Facebook seems as the possible alternative, I never thought of LinkedIn!

    Hi Angelica,

It is good that your target group is clear. Other than LinkedIn, search for dedicated forums and engage with the SEO experts there. Facebook allows you to draw out your target group by targeting your ads at specific interests - you'd need to do some research and not target general interests like "SEO" itself.

    Cheers!
    Alvin

Care to elaborate more? What have you tried? :) Personally I've not tried marketing via Tumblr!

In fact, it's really that bad...
It doesn't matter the relation to SEO, the tool is still relevant!
    Well. Time will tell!

Resurrecting a bunch of older content sites. Finding new purposes for their existence. I miss the days when smaller sites could rank well in comparison with some of the monolith-style networks that are in existence now. Keeping on with my main internet business as I go through the work.

Repackage your old content, draw out your site map, and go after long tail keywords first.
Smaller sites just have to find a different route and not go head-on with the mammoth sites.

Bigger brands have a harder time in engaging their audience at times - that's where we can come in to form a community and rapport with our target groups.

Yes, working through that process now, a lot of work and not simple, and for some sites / domains, time to close a chapter.

I find this phase exciting, simply because you get to restructure everything, and position your business for greater heights! Have fun!

Time to weed out the sub-par ones!

I hear that Tumblr is a great way to get free traffic, but to me it only seems to cater to teens and young adults, who just want to talk and post about cool stuff....not really my market.

these two months of the new year have been impressive. many new contacts and opportunities. this is also because anyone's got an amazing energy when a new year starts, but unfortunately it will not be this way for 12 months :) . I'm here to see what will happen.
