Is it legal to use any dicitionary words in your business ? (Google)

Google is a dictionary word now, so is it legal to use it in your business name ?

Like not just the word GOOGLE but including some other words with it ?

No. It is a unique name.

No. You will not get away with starting a business called "Google Pizza" or anything else using the word "google". Being added to a dictionary (if it has) does not give you the ability to use trademarked business names for your own purposes.

Google is a trademarked name. You cannot use it in any fashion in business name. The fact that the word "google" may have been added to a dictionary is irrelevant to the fact that it is a trademarked and legally protected name. If you were to use it in a domain name like googlesucks.or or something else, you can probably get away with doing that. But if you are going to start a business like "Google Dry Cleaners" you will not be able to do that.

Why do you even post a thread if you already know the answer?...or refuse to listen to the answer. I run by so many of these posts on here using trademarked names in their names. What conceivable benefit do you get from using Google in your site's name? Honestly.

Nope that is illegal. Any lawyer familiar with trademark law will tell you that; and so will Google's lawyers when they eventually get to you.

I am listening ;) I got the domain around last year, didn't register it myself, someone sold it to me. And I got the idea of starting a blog, free blog which everyone can use. Right now i am getting a number of stable visits, so i wanted to know if its good. If its not, i will change the domain name and make sure it won't effect the traffic.
    Thanks

But why did @billzo said it I can use it on online names.

Using a trademarked company name in a domain name is sometimes acceptable if there is no possibility of confusing the website with an official site. A site like googlesucks.com is not going to be confused with Google because it is unlikely Google would create a website saying it sucks. MrGoogleGlass, on the other hand, could result in some believing that the site is a Google-sanctioned or affiliated site. Every business can choose whether or not to allow use of their trademarks and can determine how aggressively they want to pursue violations. Google's official policy is pretty strict:

    http://www.google.com/permissions/trademark/rules.html

    • Don't use or register Google trademarks as or incorporated in social media account names, profiles, or monikers.
    • Don't register Google trademarks as second or third level domain names.
    • Don't use Google trademarks in a way that suggests a common, descriptive, or generic meaning.
The word "Google" is its trademark as is "Google Glass".

Why would you do that?! No , you're not good. You can even get in the trouble for that. You can't use a trademark

I think that you should ignore all of the good advice that you have been receiving from the members here and do the following:

    1. Set aside $5 million for legal fees.
    2. Put up the blog and send a link to it to Google's IP legal team.
    3. Fight it out with them in court for the next few years and let us know how it goes.

The key step is #1, of course. You may need more money, but it will get you started on the path that you seem to want to go down.

I don't hate anyone on this forum, though I suppose that I could be convinced otherwise, at some point. :)

I just wanted to lay out another option for you, since it was not clear that you were happy with the responses you were getting. I hope that everything works out for you.

;) I am keeping the domain for sure. Just making 301 redirects to newer one. Getting ready just incase. If google sends me a notice, i will have to give up the domain fast and losing all my traffic. So its better I make 301 redirects and keep hold on the domain for 6-12 months

What is "evil" about that? The person that registered those domain names was acting illegally. Who was the evil one?
