    There are NO new "rules". The "rules" have not changed for years and they are the same as what they have always been.
    All that has changed is Google has got better at detecting what was against those "rules"

    Right to a point, my friend. Indeed the fundamentals still remain the same but SEO does evolve and morph and quite frequently too. Years ago no one cared about optimization for mobile devices, conversational searches in the engines were just a dream and everything revolved around keywords which saw a large quantity of keyword-stuffed websites. While the Big G always frowned upon such, they were never prosecuted.

    The whole point is to understand the logic behind all of it and learn the basic fundamentals. Everything that revolves around those however, changes quite frequently (the reason why SEO books that are written more than a couple of years ago are practically useless today) ;)

    I seem to agree with you a bit. A rule is a regulation or principle governing conduct or procedure within a particular area of activity. Few rules have changed but there are some fundamental "solid rock" rules that are still on.
