Premade Adsense filter for blog ads ?

Discussion in 'AdSense' started by mxlabs, May 27, 2005.

    Hi!

I am in the process of using the adsense filter to block any and all "blog ads" I come across. Does anybody happen to have a premade list of major blog advertisers I can add to my filter list?

Why would you filter out an entire segment of advertisers? If you don't want their ads, just don't put content about blogs on your site.

Are you seeing irrellevant blog ads somehow?

The problem is that the CTR sucks because they aren't actually related.

Exactly - http://diobach.com/2005/05/stuff-to-stick-on-walls.html is a perfect example of the problem. The content is fine, h1 tags in the headline and obviously about buying art...

But the ads are all blog releated. In fact, the only mention of blog is in the Nav, and as its a blog link, it needs to say so. I also get a lot of ads for Bach music and flower remedies - which really misses the point of the blog. Its not a money maker for me, its a personal journal so I can live with it. With a keyword filter it might start to look a lot better.

    Hi all,
i have a similar problem on my websites ...
Few days ago i ask to the GGTeam if it was possible to implement a "negative keywords filter" ...
in my case i have a site about "wellness" but i don't want "wellness-hotels" ads ... so i would like to setup "- hotel" "-hotels" "- wellness hotels" in kewd filters..

I hope they answer me and implement it as soon as possible.
I will post the answer here.

I have been working through a similiar issue on my blog. I run several topic specific sites but I started a blog so I'd have somewhere to post articles on those one off subjects when I catch wind of a hot key phrase that does not related to my existing sites.

I removed all mention of "blog" from the site. The only place left is in the domain name (http://blog.lonecrow.net) Yet I still get blog ads! Somehow G's has identified it as a blog but I havn't figured out yet how. Perhaps it's the RSS icon in the footer? Perhaps it's because I use the term "Journal" in the title...hmm come to think of it, that's problably it. If I was an adWord user I'd try to bid low on journal...I'm going to rename to domain and remove the word journal.

If anyone has more info about relevance in blogs I'd love to hear it. I am sure there are many successfull blog sites, if you run one let us know.

Lonecrow, I guess the URL is like a big banner shouting "I'm a blog, I'm a blog!".
Look at this site that is basically a blog and shows no blog ads. They deleted all references to blogs and looks clean.

Yuppers, I guess the URL carries allot of weight because that is the only mention of blog on the whole site at this time. Perhaps I should choose a sub-domain with high payouts :)

Well, I have software that I created that lists every AdWords advertiser for whatever keyword(s) I put in. So here is a complete list of every web site that is advertising in AdWords for the keywords "Blog", "Blogging", and "Weblog". If you want to include other keywords, let me know. I think if you put this in your filter you won't get any more blog ads...
