I have used both platforms a fair bit in the past. Here are my takes on both:

    Reddit
I have definitely got more traffic from Reddit, but in one-off situations only. Meaning I may post 10 links, and only one of them will get any serious upvotes or traffic. But that one could equate to thousands of visits in a day. That said, the drawback to Reddit is that a lot of users seem really angry and disgruntled. Reddit is full of trolls looking not to offer constructive criticism, but to outright tear apart whatever you have posted. If you are concerned about negativity surrounding or content, or happen to be really sensitive, Reddit might ruin your day.

    StumbleUpon
Only once did I ever got more than 1000 visits from a link I posted to StumbleUpon. That said, I tend to get a more steady, consistent flow of traffic to each link I post over a number of days. And I haven't found the same level of negativity from other Stumblers that I have on Reddit.

My personal opinion is to use both. If traffic is what you are after, there is no good reason not to make both platforms a focus. Just note that I haven't found that either platform offers me much in the way of engagement. Meaning you will get traffic, but so far as converting those users into mailing list subscribers, generating new comments on your page, or acquiring more social shares to Facebook or Twitter, don't expect much.

But that's just one man's opinion.

I will say both are good and we should use both of them to increase traffic but Reddit is very problematic website you need to work with him very slow... and they don't like small sites, blogs....They love to get all the posts from official sites, videos form YouTube,Vimeo... images from Imgur...
So its very hard to get a traffic from them, but if you still want to try here a few tips. we have to start from a small sub sub reddits to get some link karma and comment karma before When you will have 1k karma you can move to bigger sub reddits.

where as it is easy to share with stumbleupon. It is not slow as Reddit, you can get traffic by instant. One major problem with Stumleupon is that 100% bounce rate. Almost you get traffic from stumbleupon with 100% bounce rate. So both have their own positive and negative things but it's depend upon you how you are using these two site. If yoour way of using is accordingly then surly you will get positive results.

These two have different communities and approach. The results vary and depends on the title, image and your description as well as the content. There are different types of audiences that uses the said services. So, choose what suits you best. Why not try both and use them all at once.

I'd say stumbleupon overall but in some cases, reddit is the better choice.

Are you talking about just useless traffic or the traffic that actually acts on your pages?

The first one - definitely SU. It historically has a bounce rate of at least 70%-80%.

While, if you know your way around it, Reddit can actually bring customers in. You just have to play your cards right and don't get too spammy and irrelevant.

Results may be different for different sites. What is better for you, you will know only when you try both and than see the results...

StumbleUpon brings traffic faster, but usually messes up your bounce rates. It's a bit harder to get traffic from reddit, but it would be the best choice as there you're basically building a "fan base", sort-of speak, that will help you on the long run.

Both websites are good. Reddit user interface does not seems to be much interesting as compared to Stumble Upon. So many users find it difficult to use it. Stumble upon interface is quit easy and interesting one.

I find StumbleUpon is more effective at bringing traffic to a site quickly and easily. That being said, if you're willing to invest the time in building authority on Reddit you can reap massive rewards. It's just a longer and more substantial time investment.

You can use both. Don't stick with just either of them two. Take advantage of all social media networking sites.
