Many blogs and coupons out there are out of date.

Providers adjust their prices / coupon details almost every month. According to https://www.domcomp.com the current cheapest offer is $0.99 from 1&1, but you probably won't go with 1&1 for their horrible reputation. The second cheapest one is GoDaddy $1.49 (after coupon discounted)

I agree gdaddy has some cheap come-ons
and so does 1and 1 but I can say from horrible personal experience that one and one is the worst registrar
they will cheat you any way they can
if the cheating doesn't get you the incompetent outsourced staff will.
and they have a absentee owner in Germany even though the US HQ is in NE PA
I talked to several attorneys regarding misconduct by 1 and 1
ultimately I didn't have to sue them but I did like the fact that I could have pursued them in PA court [I am in a nearby state]
You can still use them if you are cautious
[example; if you miss the renewal by one day it is a $40 service fee...that is their right..godaddy shortened the grace period as well this year but at least they dont publish incorrect renewal dates in your account and they still have a grace period]

reg the domain for 1$ then as soon as you can transfer out to a reputable company
so you spend say 9-10$ [1$ and 8.5 for transfer] but now you have a two year reg

ResellerClub runs some really good promotions on domains regularly. You should definitely give it a shot.

My vote is going with godaddy. I always use godaddy for registering a domain. I also suggest others to use godaddy.

I always use NameCheap to register domains, wouldn't go near the web hosting services which they offer, but for domain names they've never let me down. Do a google search you'll find some coupon codes for this month

Can I just add GoDaddy is cheap to start off with but their renewal prices tend to be more expensive than others.
