The easiest way to get page 1 is to try and serve the end user with the best answer to the search query and if you do so and don't get page 1 then you need to question things further and keep addressing things until you break your way through...

But do not just hope to get page 1. Even getting page 1 can be temporary, and businesses that relied on this are struggling now with some of the updates google has inflicted.

I would either have a budget for advertising on multiple places, websites, newspapers, magazines and so on. If you are doing a marketplace (needing both buyers and sellers to work) its nearly impossible to get off the ground. You might have alot of success at other sites, (or even drop shipping sites where you have the product and are only trying to find buyers) but marketplaces are double the work as you have to find both buyers and sellers at the same time.

Most people that create these types of sites simply fail to gain any real traction.

OP, really, before you continue any further, reach out to people that own, or have owned the type of site you are looking for, and see if you can gain some really good ideas on how to improve your chances of success.

seems you are more concerned about google ranking rather than site content, though its quite true that everyone is concerned about ranking but until you have a good content and strategy for your site its not gonna work.

Ranking would only work until you engage your visitors and that can be achieved via interesting content only rather than just pushing some blackhat stuffs to rank your site up.

 

Quality link building is recommended. Is it a low competitive market? Would highly recommend guest blogging.
