I don't think that would be an issue with Google.

It is not uncommon for a business to have a variety of businesses, or product lines, they market separately but come into a single call center. You example falls into that same category.

Your other option is to talk to your phone company to see what they would charge to give you several phone numbers that all ring to the same number.

I have done something similar using several VOIP phone numbers that are all forwarded to my mobile number.

    100% Absolutely No.

You need to get yourself a separate phone line for each business/website you have and update them as soon as possible. Duplicate anything is bad in Google's eyes, ESPECIALLY contact information showing up under separate entities. This is terrible for SEO and seriously hurts your ability to rank. You're basically sending huge red flags to search engine spiders every time they crawl your sites.

I don't care what anyone else tells you, get separate numbers for each site or you're going to have SERP issues. Even if it's a few free Google voice numbers that you need to take temporary calls.

Jennifer, I am going to have to 100% disagree with you.

Explain this scenario, which is real life.

Microsoft, Google, and every fortune 500 company has dozens, if not hundreds of people blogging on a diverse set of domain names, often all listing the phone number back to their company's main switchboard. This is just a very common business situation. I cannot imagine Google blasting people out of the water due to having the same phone number and address on their websites....unless those sites are spammy sites.

My phone number is on LinkedIn, Facebook, and a bunch of other sites, and in my ads, which are on different sites. Wouldn't that kill my SEO? I use the same number on several sites, because they are completely different product/service offerings, but all part of my core business. That is not an uncommon situation.

What about companies that sell a wide diversity of products and have made niche sites to promote their different categories of products as a BENEFIT to their customers. That is a positive in the eyes of Google's SEO team, because you are SERVING your clients, by making it easier for them to find what they want. Those sites would likely all have the same phone number and address.

I have found no proof that it affect rankings, unless you are doing some other SEO trickery that gets you into trouble.

It would be one thing if he had a single company with multiple branches that all led back to his main site and used different numbers that still made a crumb trail. However, this is not what he's saying. He is saying he has completely separate businesses from one another that are unrelated and using the same number.

You are the same person. Google sees this and recognizes that you are the same person across all boards, so of course you would not be penalized for this. Also, this only applies if you're listing yourself as a business – showing up in directories as "Pet Care Place XYZ" with the number 555-5555 and then showing up in another directory as "Todd's Super Cool Gym Place" with the same number 555-5555, looks bad to Google and raises a red flag.

Google wants contact information to be the same across the board for businesses like this and they WILL penalize you. You certainly won't get your site sandboxed, but it does hurt rankings. There are people that get paid to optimize business listings for SEO because this is such a common problem.

Look at Twilio - you can get multiple phone numbers for around $1 each.
