    According to me both have same importance. If you have any query and you did not find any satisfied answer in search engines then should ask as thread. If you know the replies of asked thread then should reply to assist others.

    Don't use forum to just create backlinks or increasing traffic. It is more than that.

    Why not do both, but only if adding something of value? You surely have some questions you can ask that are relevant to the forum, but if you don't then you can simply read other posts and see what questions/topics people are talking about and come up with ideas based on that.
