External SEO Help?

Discussion in 'SEO' started by Jordan Roper, Aug 12, 2014.

    Hi there,

I'm relatively new to SEO and I am having some problems on the external side of things. The on-page SEO is going quite well, but if the websites aren't ranking when I have finished the on-page stuff, I'm faced with a huge dilemma as I am unsure on what to do with the external SEO processes.

There are a few things that I need help with and I'm sure that one of the experts on this forum will be able to help me with.

    1. Which directories can provide you with "follow" links? I know that follow links are better than no follow links but I can't seem to find any that provide follow links, does anyone know any sites that do?

    2. I have heard that Press Releases are a good form of exposure for your website, however, although I know what a Press Release is and how to write one, I am unsure of where I would actually post these? Could someone please let me know of any sites that post Press Releases?

I look forward to hearing back from anyone that can provide me with some professional help.

    Thanks in advance.

    Jordan

Thank you so much Navneet, I really appreciate it but do you know of any decent directory sites that offer "follow" links?

We used to pay a Link Building specialist, however, we're no longer in contact with him. So if anyone on here is able to provide Link Building to a high level, we will be able to discuss possible work. Please PM me. Thanks.

If you use a tool like linkresearchtools.com you can generate link reports of your competition and show which ones are follow.

You really want to avoid directories and focus on quality sites that have traffic potential on top of passing on link juice. If you get too many low quality links, this can possibly lead to penalties.

I understand how to do external-seo, the main problem that I seem to be facing is what websites that I can use to get follow links from?

I know blog commenting can provide you with no-follow links but I am mainly aiming for good quality do-follow links - does any specialist on here know where I can get these links from? The main focus is dentistry.

    Thanks.

You should understand what type of links as well as the link building methods that can harm your site. If you read up on all of the Penguin related materials you will realize some of the things you listed as link building methods are something that could seriously harm your website.

Google is making it difficult to just buy your way to top rankings and that is what you had previously with link building directories, comment posting (comment spam), press release sites, link exchanges, 3 way link exchanges, etc... Sure you need follow links to have some rankings but if your profile consists of only follow links and from certain sources they you are putting your site at risk of a penalty.

Many of the link building companies that charge money for links, will also charge money to remove links that you already paid for once you realize they are harming your site and you need them taken down. So this is why it helps to do competition reports and analysis to see which of your competitors does have good quality links and to see how they obtained them. Not always will they be paid but at the end of the day, you want to try to build a link profile that looks as natural as possible: a mix of nofollow with follow, links that come from sources that relate to your topic (so a blog about food that links to everyone because they sell links, doesn't make sense and a site about dentistry should have links from the same topic), you will also want social media links which is another signal that your site is real and has a natural link profile. Also make sure your content is very good as you will have to deal with Panda issues as well if your content isn't up to par.

A few last tips if you are going to buy links, pay attention to domain authority (DA) and page authority (PA). These 2 give you indications if you are dealing with a quality site or not and when people are sellling links you'll notice that PR isn't the only thing they will mention. Low quality link builders will never mention DA or PA at all because they sell links to anybody that pays them. You can get plugins for chrome to find out what DA and PA are for any website.

Feel free to give me a like if you appreciate the tips.
