Know who you are writing for and relate to their wants, needs, pain points, desires, etc. Encourage comments by asking questions throughout your content. Share blog posts, images, or videos from blog posts in relative groups on Facebook and on your own fan page.

I think you should create a contest. Something like " ...... for the best comment " and so on. In this way, they'll get something from you and potentially become your loyal reader or customer.

The term "quality content" says nothing really.. The question is what's in the quality content that would engage people.
Well, if you are selling products, then hopefully these products solve a problem.
What you need to do is list 'symptoms' they might have to go through in their life if they don't buy your product.
First help them identify the hardships they might be having, then help them relate it to a root cause they might have not even been aware of.
So your job is to bring awareness, then help them realize they need it, then turn that need into a want.
To turn a need into a want you must show how what you sell is relevant, important and urgent to their situation.
At that point they will hopefully want what you say they need.

It helps to explain why you do what you do and why this product is in existence.
To just tell them 'do it because I say so' doesn't work.

In order to hold the customer interest, it is important to have the right blend of images and content on your website. Make sure that your website content is informative and useful. It is also important to have images on the website that complement the content and enhance the readability.

Are you currently doing anything to capture your audiences email? By doing so you will be able to maintain regular contact by sending them details of new houses as they come on the market or set up an automated email series that gives advice and help about buying property. When they are ready to buy they will have more chance of thinking about your business.

First you have to figure out what they want because if they aren't buying your products they obviously don't want what you are offering at the moment.

Figure out what their REAL problems and worries are and then deliver solutions to them. You can do this by either scouring related forums on the niche and seeing what common questions arise (problems!) or you can survey them by setting up a quick survey in SurveyMonkey.

You could try to collect visitors´ email addresses and send them email/an offer from time to time.
Insert a online chat button in your site and communicate/answer visitors´questions.
I am using LiveAgent -multichannel helpdesk, in this software I can set up sending auto-chat invitations. It really increased my conversion rate.

This may have already been said, but make sure you are updating the information on your website and keeping content relevant. I know that many people like to have some proof that a website is actually active and not idle in the internet world. As Eric Wahlberg stated, a chat service could do wonders.

The other things stated such as appealing visuals can also bring in much more traffic.

Communication is a central aspect of most websites. (your tone of voice plays an important part when it comes to establishing two-way communication on your website)

and, here are some ways to engage your visitor…
First, be complete from an informational point of view, it mean offer your website visitors all the info they want to know.
(Allowing visitors to leave comments on your blog posts is a great way to establish relationships)

Second, you can write a blog with useful resources for your visitors, or upload meaningful images, photographs and infographics on your site.

Third, Email is by far the best way of engaging with your fans, as they are much more likely to read something sent directly to their inbox, than something which they have to actively go and read somewhere online. (but also use Facebook & Twitter)

Four, besides great advice and useful tips, giveaways & freebies can sometimes work magic, as we all appreciate receiving a little gift every now and then.

A harmony of good retention strategies will lead to an increase in customer profitability, the lasting relationships and the lower amount of money to maintenance cost as well.
The simplest way is to reward customers points for their purchase at your store since customers love points - actually the discount they can get for next purchasing.
Install available extensions on your website such as Magento Reward Point Plus, Magento Membership Card, Promotional Gift Extension... I try them and it really helps.
Here is the website I ordered: http://www.magestore.com/rewardpoints/
