According to today's scenerio, I think you should follow below order of marketing strategy to promote your business.

    1. Social site marketing
    2. SEO and SEM
    3. Blogs and articles
    4. Email marketing
    5. Newsletters

Your strategy depends mostly on your market/niche, but generally speaking:

    1. SEO and SEM - your "foundation"
    2. Blogs and articles - your "walls and roof"
    3. Social site marketing
    4. Newsletters
    5. Email marketing

That will depend on the industry you're in. But basically it should go like this:
    1. SEO and SEM
    2. Social site marketing (Social Media Marketing)
    3. Blogs and articles
    4. Newsletters
    5. Email marketing

I would do them all - no matter the order. You can get all of these done within 2 hours per day. In fact, i am doing them all. Collectively they bring me free sales that reduce my paid advertising costs online. I think you should do all 5. It will only benefit you in the long run.

As Randall said, implementing all! I know I keep banging on about email marketing, but in my opinion it's a sure fire way of driving traffic to whichever site you want!

Return visitors to your site are much more likely to spend and buy. One simple email to your list driving traffic back to your blog and boom, you could be knee deep in sales!

In today's climate, you can no longer pick a technique and hope to succeed.

It must be a combination of several techniques to get the much needed traffic. Of course you should not be implementing like 5 techniques. Just pick 3 and focus on fine-tuning them.

It is not necessary that one best marketing strategy would be best for others as well. Each website/product/service needs separate marketing strategy to promote it. Even general marketing strategy sequence is as:
    1. Social site marketing
    2. SEO and SEM
    3. Email marketing
    4. Blogs and articles
    5. Newsletters

It seems to me that a lot of people are placing e-mail marketing at the end of the marketing strategy totem pole, but depending on your content and ability to gain readers' attention, e-mail marketing can truly help you gain attention! A combination of all of these will really drive in the numbers just like Randall and many other members have stated.

Email marketing is great for bottom of the funnel retargeting.
