Is it possible to transfer my Wordpress blog site to my personal domain hosted in GoDaddy?

    Hi everyone,

    I am fairly new to DP forum posting but today out of necessity I am doing it.
    Please can someone help by guiding me in transferring my blog in wordpress : (g*****) to my domain (xyz***.com) hosted in Godaddy.

    I have almost 10GB of hosting space there and my domain has just a name and no files.
    Please let me know if you have any questions.

    I am unsure if your host uses cPanel but if they do then your WordPress install can be as easy as a one click move. I also suggest you look at WordPress support. Every time I have needed an answer about my WordPress blog I have found it very helpful. Good luck on the move. Having a hosted blog on your own domain can open up a whole new world.

    Good advice. I'd like to add the following:
    1. How to install WordPress on a GoDaddy Web Hosting account: http://support.godaddy.com/help/article/834/installing-wordpress-on-your-hosting-account

    2. After you have installed WordPress on your new host, then take the XML import and upload it as suggested by Ironcladservers' post above (or see http://codex.wordpress.org/Importing_Content -- which says basically the same thing).

    3. If you want to use the same theme as you used on your WordPress.com site, then you can jot down the name of the theme and then try to find it in WordPress' directory by doing a search for via your new site's WP-Admin (see section 'Adding New Themes using the Administration Panels' on this page http://codex.wordpress.org/Using_Themes).

    4. If you want to use the same plugins as you did on WordPress.com, then jot down the name of those and locate them in the WordPress Plugins Repository (http://wordpress.org/plugins/). Download and install into your new WP installation. Instructions can be found http://codex.wordpress.org/Managing_Plugins.

    5. Be sure you do not delete your WordPress.com site until you have copied over data from any widgets you have on that site. Widget data typically does not get transferred over in an XML export. So you'll need to manually do that by toggling between both sites (your WordPress.com site and your new WordPress site at GoDaddy) to copy and paste that data over into your new site.

    It seems to me that Hostwebspaces.com would be a good choice for running wordpress blogs with.
    The site is always up. pricing is cheap. The host seems well intentioned and the service is good.

    1) Backup you site on your current hosting ( files with the database)
    2) Copy the backup via FTP or File Manager to your Godaddy server
    3) Restore the backup on Godaddy server via their control panel

    If its a free WordPress account (which it seems to be the case) then he wouldn't have access to neither files, nor databases. So the @CU_Designs advice is the most detailed one for this scenario. It would be more of a recreation of the blog, than a move/transfer per se ;)
