    For both adults and teens, taking final exams is a guaranteed stress causer. Amongst other things final exams lead to extreme stress and a large amount of sleep loss. The pressure of which final exams is placed on the students is unbelievable. Having the final exam equivalent to at least 20% of your entire semester grade (high schools and colleges percentages may vary) is a wonderful way in stressing out your students. If the students are already being tested after every unit of teaching, why must the board of education increase the work hours of both teachers and student. Requiring students to recall everything they have been taught in a time span of 5-6 months is a tremendous job.

    Jeepers - I'd love to have an education system where finals are worth only 20% - what cruise that would be.

    students are tested after every unit but no one takes it seriously though
    exams are useful for stress testing
    either the person will give up or work hard to prove himself

    20% of my overall grade?? Thats a dream! I wish! I have been very stressed. Studying about 800 pages of notes for my upcoming final exam. Im a Medical student and my final exam is worth 40% yes i didn't make a mistake its worth 40% of our overall grade!

    I would have liked finals to be 100%... then you don't have to do anything other than show up for that. :)

    I always aced my finals but never did homework. hah

    I had given only Final Exams as per our university exam structure there is not unit test in between semester and that keeps us stress free :D
    exam after every 6 month so you need to read only for 1 month..lolz;)
    I can imagine this thing :eek: Weekly Exam :(

    To some extent I agree with Coolpavan, but I'd add something.
    By having 20% stress in final schooling exam, you can survive 20 to 23 years of your life. But what happens after 25 years to the rest of your life when you have to take pressure in every department weather it is your job, personal life or family life, percentage can vary there.

    That doesn't work
    I've heard that in post-USSR college system they often have this system "final makes everything". It often results with students more or less ignoring their studies up to the period right before finals going into a really tough stress. If the education's aim is some knowledge and skills, then the best system is the one that makes you study constantly:)
