    Hello Friends ,

Most of the SEO guyzz focus more on directory submission as method of increasing their back links & they also suggest other SEO trainees to do that. So, My question is that Directory submission is really that helpful.

    Thanks in Advance

Yes, but considering recent changes in SEO, check out the directories. Major ones like DMOZ and Y!dir and medium directories are really worth listing, but there's lot's of overspammed directory pages, that can sometimes even lower your PR.

Directories are a very delicate area to thread upon. Most people jump blindly into it, influenced by such SEO "experts" and eventually end up being penalized by Google. Truth is that the directories follow practically the same rule as content writing and link building - you want to be looking at relevant and useful ones. The trick is that many big directories out there rely on affiliate profits, so their ranks are strongly influenced by those affiliates. Another thing you should avoid is directories with no moderation/automatic submission - those will definitely have little to no value for you. So make your research and trust reputable, moderated directories - the process will be slower, but it would be the right one in the long term ;)

There's lots of guys around asking for money (like $10-15 typically for directory submissions). It's SEO's past age. The links they create for you might cause Google drop you down significantly. I check out every new/unknown directory before adding sites there.

I agree, thus the reason for my advise of careful research and avoid jumping into "super-easy, super-cheap, super-duper" deals ;)

Thanks for replying... But in recent days I have noticed that most of the SEO professional not focusing more on directories as earlier...If you focus on High PR directories then there might be chance that Google bot will think that it's a Paid directory.

what I really hate about todays Internet is that there's lots of people ready to write blogs and "analytics' promoting those crappy low-end directories, assuring newbies, that they're gonna get cool PR and traffic boost from those submissions.

No but Dmoz do have a competitor and that is Yahoo! Directory although it's paid directory (only if you want a guarantee but you can list sites free for consideration) but it worth it as it will give a huge boost SEO, same effect you would get from DMOZ if not better.

Hmm.. I haven't tried submitting on Yahoo Directory but I'll give it a try since I don't think I still have a chance getting listed on DMOZ.

You`d better try to gamble on sound content marketing strategy and concentrate on creating interesting and viral content

I thing it's a good idea, but be careful of the quality of the directory (no PR+ porn advertising = maybe not a good idea ^^) don't try to over submit and submit in ht purpose to get traffic or to just classifie your website, don't try to submit just to get more backlink, because you will be tempted to have a bad behavior and do a bad quality referencement...
if you want more info, i can help you (PM, i've wrote a blog post about it recently :)
    Have a nice day !

Do end users really even use directories anymore? Directories are a place for webmasters to list their site, often times for a fee. But since they offer very little value to regular users, Google sees this as an attempt to manipulate their algorithm. I always stay away from practically all directories.
