    i purchased a 1gb ram vps i configured everything correctly .. but bind9 taking half of ram ..am edited options max size but didnt working ..any one tell me to optimize bind ram

    Make sure that you have recursive queries disabled. Run your site through http://intodns.com/ as well.

    One option is to take up 2 different nameservers (different network / datacenter). Taking 2 (or more) vps servers, with each 512ram, and installing cpanelDNSonly (which is free) and connect them to the primary server using clustering, then you can disable bind on the primary server.

    This is just one suggestion.

    Hmmm...how many records is bind hosting...? I suspect it is alot which is why they are loading into the RAM.

    A 1GB VPS does not give you a lot of resources especially if you are running a DNS, Mailserver, Apache, etc. so I would remove/disable anything you don't need. Are you actually running your own DNS and using your own DNS zones? If not, you can disable bind at system startup "# chkconfig named off" and use an external DNS like with you registrar for free.

    I am not sure why providers even offer a VPS with only one gig of ram. Its good for checking emails and that is about it. The only point really is to be able to install software you want. Its not suitable for actually hosting things. Hostgator reseller accounts are way freaking faster, surprisingly.

    Huh???? I run entire DNS servers off of 64mb of RAM. There's not one in our cluster that's more than 128mb of RAM. cPanel will run incredibly well on 1GB. If you don't run a panel, you should be able to host tons of sites (or a really large one) off of 1GB of RAM.

    Not really sure how you come up with this stuff.

    Like WSWD said above cPanel can run your website and the DNS, Since it's a VPS there's a special edition of cPanel/WHM which is the VPS version which uses less ram for more disk I/O usage and CPU usage. I have many cPanel/WHM VPS Configurations running with 512MB Ram.

    Why are you running your own DNS server for just a couple of domains?

    Your registrar likely provides DNS services. These will be far more robust and redundant than you can achieve with a single VPS.

    I recommend you not host your own DNS servers until you are doing shared hosting.

    We have 100+ servers at our disposal and still do not run our own DNS servers. Why?

    We outsource this to DNS Made Easy to get global coverage and allows us not to worry about configuring & maintaining DNS.
