Of course SEO can't be eternal. But all the actual internet and technology are SEO focused. I hope search engine can improve their algorithms to reward fresh and quality content always instea to serve specific rules. So I'm a bit tired of SEO intended as simple rules to follow for attract more visitors... so, can't a blog with no seo post better contents than another seo focused... sure yes... and search engine had to recognize that (seo or not seo) Seo should be only related to the formal presentation of contents in web, not the main thing to work for.
SEO is not only name of link building, onsite optimization. You need to understand some core concepts like What is artificial intelligence and how search query in mysql works. It is not a blind game, it is kind of quality work you need to follow, despite of just building links. To some extent you are right as well @ carlo75 but in this competitive era, every one out there need to survive in real life.
