Yoast Wordpress SEO plugin - Is Anyone Familiar With It?

Discussion in 'HTML & Website Design' started by dinrock, Apr 24, 2014.

I'm using the Yoast plugin, that I have activated on my site in signature below. I am curious if someone knows if tagging with repeat keyword terms is acceptable. Here is an example:

#1. a page would offer "dog photographs"
#2. Page has dozens of different dog photos in a gallery and each image also has
    it's own page.
#3. Is it acceptable to tag each of these dozens of images with "dog photograph", or would
the term be considered keyword stuffing?

I ask this due to the fact the term "photograph" would appear in the description and content of the written text in the page and then in the title, plus also in the tags.....could the bots interpret this as stuffing?

Not sure what this specifically has to do with Yoast, but what you're describing sounds like keyword stuffing to me, and it's likely going to be seen that way by search bots. Yoast of course will "grade" the page for you. My guess is that it will tell you the same thing.
Are you doing the stuffing on purpose in order to rank for "dog photographs"? If so...might want to consider some variations in your tagging.

    I'm not agree.

If dinrock make better the navigation experience of the users, it can't be considered as keyword stuffing. Tags are very important for blog navigation; if you tag photos only with "dog photograph" I can't consider that an irrelevant keyword. For more safety you can also make noindex the archive for tags, so Google can't take care of them, but your users yes.

    @dinrock
you said that every photo has also a page; in this page you can add a very complete description, to avoid an intensive use of the keywords (2-3% maximum).

.. allow me to go offtopic a little ... love your stuff. I 'wasted' minutes looking at your cartoons, really funny :D

Back to the topic .. as long as the links are relevant (menu links), I wouldn't see it as over-stuffing. But then I'm not a SEO specialist

Thanks Carlo....I haven't really put the Yoast plugin to the complete test. This is what I was trying to say. So I am trying to avoid using a specific keyword like "cartoons" (you said 2-3% maximum, OK on that). However, I have multiple images about a same or similar topic like Abraham Lincoln and one of my tags is "abraham lincoln" where 3 show up on a single page if you use my built-in search engine on my home page and type that in, this page appears: http://danscartoons.com/?s=abraham lincoln and what I've done is go into my Yoast plugin to SEO that page
(see screenshot) - btw SuperiorWD, that is great you found my work funny....many do not! lol! Thanks......

    Yes dinrock,
you got it, this a well optmized YOAST for tag "Abraham Lincoln".
So the screenshot you have attached is relative to tag "Abraham Lincoln", but your link instead is about a search trough yours site.

The screenshot is relative to SEO of http://danscartoons.com/tag/abraham-lincoln/

Yoast plugin, by deafult, do not index or follow the search results page and 404 error page, so you can only choose another title, from wordpress Dashboard -> SEO -> Title & Meta - > tab Other. So don't waste time these pages.

For a bit more racy SEO you can try to edit the tag to "Abraham Lincoln cartoons".
This can be a try, but atm you're so good.

Carlo: Do you mean at very top of my screenshot you will see (under Edit Tag), in that "name box" add the word "cartoons" after Abraham Lincoln"? And also in slug, change it to "abraham-lincoln-cartoons".........not sure what to do and would that mess up any of the settings?

Yes only for the name... but I repeat, this only for testing purposing, and no for slug, this one it's ok.
If you are not sure, don't change anything I think your workaround is very clever... so I try this test on apposite "demo blog" for see if sorting some results and sometimes was good, but someother bad...

Also I like so much tour cartoon ;-)

I find Yoast to be excellent. Have you thought of tagging the photos with dog types such as Great Dane, Dachshund or similar?
