Hey everyone, I have (classroom) experience in Dreamweaver and HTML and I want to build a website to aid in my job search. Like an online portfolio. I know exactly what I want, I am currently working on the graphics in Photoshop for my home page. However, I am not sure what program to start building it. I noticed that a lot of websites are being built using templates and with Wordpress. My question is, if I use one of those templates or Wordpress, would I be able to upload my own photos to use on the pages and be able to highlight image maps and use my own creativity? If not, what software do you guys recommend? This is a site similar to what I have designed in the way the website reacts. http://www.foxie.ru I have emailed him to see what program he used, but he did not respond. Any info would be greatly appreciated! Thanks, sorry for such an inexperienced question. Renee
Many, if not most, pros prefer to write HTML and CSS by hand without the aid of any program like Dreamweaver. I don't know about Dreamweaver, but one of the complaints I often see with WYSIWYG programs is that they produce bad code. Yes, you can upload your own photos to use on the pages and you can edit the HTML content in the editor window to create image maps. For what you want to do, I think Wordpress would be a decent option. But as Wordpress is a CMS that relies on templates to contain the main content, it does not give you complete creative freedom. Writing static HTML pages by hand gives you the most creative freedom. Every page can be customized to exactly what you want.
From my experience, even if you have a working knowledge of HTML/CSS, wordpress will just make your life a lot easier. There are plenty of awesome portfolio themes for wordpress and you can customize the html on any page you choose.
