I have migrated from VB4 to Xenforo and it went unexpectedly well, with absolutely no errors.

I don't know if there's any importer right now from VB5, last time I checked it wasn't. So you'd probably have to go the IPB route (vb -> IPB -> Xenforo) or 'downgrade' to VB4 (though I'd say running VB5 is the 'downgrade' :D) and then convert to XenForo.

Have not checked vb5 lately nor have I updated my current project yet because its getting moved to a new domain. SWD is correct again though. I had to migrate from the mess that is phpbb3 and it literally just worked. I was pretty amazed actually. I dont see anyone making an importer for VB5 because folks, smartly, started jumping ship and not even updating to vb5 cus it frankly sucks.

He he, I kinda feel the same. I did have VB forums back in the day, when VB3 was their king (by god I loved that platform). Then VB4 came, which was an afterthought, but I had to swallow the pill and 'upgrade'. When VB5 was released, after getting few sites on Xenforo, I just laughed and vouched to never touch it :D

It definitely makes more sense for developers to focus on forum software more used than vB5 as far as making those importers first. There are VERY few sites using vB 5.x... In fact, if you look here: https://tools.digitalpoint.com/cookie-search and scroll down to "vBulletin Major Versions", there's 0.9% of vB sites using 5.0.x and 0.3% using 5.1.x... if only 1.2% of vBulletin sites are using 5.x, resources would definitely be better spent on importers from other more popular platforms/versions.

I think it's best to go into he vbulletin.com community and also the xenforo forums to find out the best ways. There are members who have done it in the past, plus the developers, so you should get better answers :)

You need to head up to their support forums and read the tutorials. Do a test migration first (meaning you will duplicate the main forum in a directory on your server, say yoursite.com/test, duplicate the database and then run a test migration to IPB. If it's working flawlessly, duplicate again the 'result' and then try to migrate to xenforo. This way you will have the main forum up and running (still on VB5), you will have a successfully migrated IPB and then the xenforo. If anything breaks, you won't waste time doing the IPB migration or screwing up your main forums.

Again, DO READ THE TUTORIALS and get support in the official forums. All platforms are premium ones, you have paid for them, ask for support, since you should receive it ;)

PS: how big of a forum are we talking about? Can you link to it?
