Url optimization is is an integral part of SEO... URL structure must have clear and easy-to-read URLs that defines what the page is about. Don't use Unnecessary URL Parameters and underscore in Urls.
In just a few words, the keyword you want to rank for to also be in the URL! But make it readable (like good-SEO-tactics! Don't use goodseotactics as it's hard to remember and also read... Don't forget, you do SEO to gain more VISITORS and NOT Search Engines!)
The URL is one of the most important aspect of my SEO campaign. I get certain pages ranked solely because of it.
UR Optimization 1. URL Memorable. 2. Keyword Optimization (eg:abc.com/keyword) 3. Use hyphen (eg:abc.com/keyword-keyword) 4. Not use long url. 5. Make URL for user.
URL structure Example Descriptive URLs Shorter URL Length Important Keywords at the Beginning No Repetition Rather than this: domain.com/services/services.php Name the sub-section differently, like this: domain.com/services/web-services.php Long Keywords: For pages with long keywords, avoid using category and sub-category names in the URLs. Keyword Stuffing: Do not stuff your URL with keywords. Capital Letters: Do not use CAPITALS in words in URLs.
URL structure should same like title Lets say Title: SEO Services UK URL: seo-services-uk For better optimization we use title and url same and also cover that keyword in description.
Your title should contain your keywords in that hyphenated format as Sheldon Lobo covered. If you're using WordPress they added a "post title" permalink structure to make it simple, just type in your title and it creates the URL off of that. You also don't want to go too deep with your subdirectories as another rule of URL optimization because Google stops crawling after a certain depth, I've heard typically not to go beyond 3 levels deep so home/subdirectory1/subdirectory2. There's really no reason to go any further unless your site is a complete mess.
URL Plays a key role in SEO. We need to ensure the keyword that you are targeting should be present in URL.
URL Along with smart internal linking, SEOs should make sure that the category hierarchy of the given website is reflected in URLs. The following is a good example of URL structure: http://www.dmoz.org/Games/Video_Games/History/ This URL clearly shows the hierarchy of the information on the page (history as it pertains to video games in the context of games in general). This information is used to determine the relevancy of a given web page by the search engines. Due to the hierarchy, the engines can deduce that the page likely doesn’t pertain to history in general but rather to that of the history of video games. This makes it an ideal candidate for search results related to video game history. All of this information can be speculated on without even needing to process the content on the page. The following is a bad example of URL structure: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0468569/ Unlike the first example, this URL does not reflect the information hierarchy of the website. Search engines can see that the given page relates to titles (/title/) and is on the IMDB domain but cannot determine what the page is about. The reference to “tt0468569” does not directly infer anything that a web surfer is likely to search for. This means that the information provided by the URL is of very little value to search engines
Is that really the right way of doing the URL? I thought it would be dmoz.org/games/video-games/history, no?
