Hey guys, you may hate me for this, but here it goes. I have said initially that a directory has to put the site into a category, just like a regular directory listing. This is not an seo contest. I see directories having sitewides on their entire directory linking back to the category with the keyterm directorycontest.com

Please remove those links.

Only have a regular listing. Otherwise this contest won't prove anything. If you get incoming links from other sites, that is ok. I can't control that. But in order to be eligible to win the contest, you can only have the keyword directorycontest.com within the listing.

Please remove the sitewides

Great Post Mike! it is hard to determine which directories rank best for their listings, if the directory does more for the contest than they would normally do for any regular listing.

 

Looks like a wise decision.

Great to find a contest like this. Sad I see it this late though
I will give it a try with one of my directories and best of luck to you all.

Best thing would be to disallow incomming links to the detail pages, but I know it is impossible to control. Would be fun to make a "hidden" contest one day, us directory owners between with very strict rules set, to make a good determine of the actual strength

 

I have an ongoing project to try to rank directories.

 

Not a bad idea to remove the sitewide listings. Let's see how many really listen. Some people seem to be optimizing there pages even though it is not a directory in order to gain a little more exposure to there non-directory sites. It would be nice to see these pages or sites drop from the contest so that we can see directory sites only.

 

We are not entered in the contest but we have to agree with banless the contest organizers should consider 'directory only sites'

 

What if they keep their current sitewide links till the end of the contest and remove them just in time for decision? Prize is good and you never know what people would do to win it..
