These are ALL previously deleted/dropped domains. Some being deleted as long as 1 year. There is NO content being sold. I spend numerous hours scouring dmoz/yahoo looking for directory listed expired domains. There is no harm in this and NO I am not an editor. Questions?

Just one, do the buyers get a refund when the directory comes back up and the sites are removed as expired/hijacked/parked?

Why would they? First, you're assuming DMOZ actually will "come up" again some day. Second, you're assuming that if they do, they'll actually find and delete those sites in anything even approximating a timely manner. Third, you're totally missing the boost that an expired domain with PR can give to SEO for the reworking of that domain/site.

Well after all he is giving the list out to everyone willing to ask him. Is he checking for dmoz drivers licenses at the door? ;)
You make a good argument with #3, I don't claim to follow SEO or care one bit for chasing PR so I am completely overlooking that poin. As for #1 you are spot on again, I am assuming dmoz will be back someday, I still believe that but won't be so arrogant as to think I will be proven right. I think dmoz will come back but no I cannot say for sure.

You are aware that there is a bot scanning the directory every now and then and if found those same domains/sites are immediately removed? For the rest of it there are editors manually checking at least there cats, from my personal experience I can tell you that it is quiet a pleasure removing the same.

So yes, the question remains, do these people get a refund in case these sites are discovered, or are you promising things you can't deliver?

I'm well aware of that, yes. I'm also well aware that DMOZ record for keeping up with dead links is far from stellar.

See my reply to this above.

Nevermind, I just don't want to end up having a hair-splitting discussion about that issue. Besides that from what I have seen so far I am pretty much sure that the number of these dead links is "far from stellar".
So as long as this guy pretends spending "numerous hours scouring dmoz/yahoo looking for directory listed expired domains", I am convinced that he must have a very poor life and would suggest applying for a job at Mac Donalds before wasting time in such a manner.;)

    what vulcano said. :D
$50 for expired domains that may be removed from dmoz shortly after purchase is just crazy. Oh one thing vulcano forgot to mention is that even if the automated checking systems miss the expired link, the editors manually checking have several other tools at their disposal that help to detect hijacks and redirects. If they are discovered they will be quickly removed. It could sit for quite some time without being detected, but why pay $50 for one link that may or may not be there after your payment is sent?

Try buying one from DMOZ "senior" editors through their "SEO" services and see how much they charge. ;)

You're all missing the point about the potential value of buying expired domains, but given that DMOZ editors seem to pride themselves on being ignorant of web design and SEO, I won't bother to distract you with an attempt at education.

It's not so much that we pride ourselves on "being ignorant of web design and SEO" it's more like just a fact. I'd be very interested to hear all about the potential value of buying expired domains. It would be nice to understand it. Please share. :)

If someone is buying and someone is selling there is no problem.Every system has its own vulnerabilities so does dmoz.
Sometimes 50 usd for a dmoz listed domain is a bargain , it has trusted backlinks.

For someone who wants to start a new website, finding an expired domain (with or without a DMOZ listing) has potential value (i.e., advnatages over establishing a brand new domain) for several reasons, two of which come to mind immediately:

    1. the domain generally will have backlinks from various places which give it at least an initial boost in search engine rankings, especially if those backlinks are credible

    2. using an established-expired domain avoids "sandbox" issues in building or maintaining SE rankings

That's why the practice of "buying links in advance" (paying to get on a watch list for expired domains with your ISP) is so popular. This is especially true where the domain name is either generic or bears some association with the link you wish to establish.

It's also a popular technique among porn site operators, in which case they don't care about the spcific domain name, only about the fact that it has a SE presence, because their intent is merely to draw people to their porn sites and they have little or no interest in a long-term commitment to the domain name once the original back links start to drop out.

Popular amongst who, "porn site operators" and may be some "get-rich-quick" sites. From what I have seen so far, I tend to believe that it is a very marginal factor, lots of hear-say and given the number of expired sites/domains that may be found scanning the ODP nothing else but a big joke.:D

    @minstrel-
So advertising it as a 'dmoz listed' site is not necessarily so the buyer gets listed in dmoz. Rather he gets a site presumably has other quality backlinks given that dmoz had listed it at one point. Therefore, even if dmoz catches it and removes it, the chance is that there are other quality backlinks that may not be immediately caught and removed before the new owner adds content. Not to mention if dmoz doesn't get it removed right away they also have the dmoz listing.

Thanks for the education, it makes a lot more sense now. :)

Thank you minstrel, now I understand a little better. Any other wisdom you can share with us would be appreciated.

Vulcano, listen to what he's telling us. It's good to understand these things. ;)

You can place "watch orders" for owned domain names to be notified in the event that the registration lapses and the domain name comes available.

For example, I own psychlinks.ca and psychlinks.net - someone else owns psychlinks.com - but I could place an order with my registrar to be notified if the psychlinks.com registration lapses in case I want to purchase it.

A better example would be if I wanted to start a new site about husky dogs and I wanted huskies.com but it was already owned - if it were to come available because of a lapse in registration, I'd probably want to grab that domain quickly.
