It depends entirely on the forum, and how many they allow. In general, signature links can very little weight in terms of link juice these days and you'd be far better off spending your time pursuing higher quality links.

You're right nowadays signature links are too weak to carry any weight in link building. But it does still get traffic. But in terms of SEO, better go back to the drawing board mate.

Its Not Depend on you to adding How much Signature you can add.
Its totally depend on forum webmaster that how many they are allowing.
And if those links are DoFollow There is nothing wrong. Google will not banned you,
if you are using your are using your links with relevant keyword or anchor text.

why do you want to spam a forum with 20 signature links????
in forums it's all about getting traffic and doubt many people will click on your 20 links.

First and Main thing I don't think any Forum generally allow "DoFollow" Links.
and Second no Form will allow this much of Links in signature

it depends on forums also if any forum allows to add 5 links but if that's no follow links, you will not get any benefit from that links.

I usually add 3 at max. Make sure you add different signatures every time and try to diversify links as much as possible.
Forum posting still works if you do it the right way.

usually, you can add 3 links in your signatures. But, it's depend on the forum you joined. If you work very hard, one day you can add more and more backlinks to your site.
    Goodluck !

:) I don't think there is a way you will get banned by G for forum signature links.

Of course - you have to avoid spammy forums, adult forums (if you're not in adult industry) and forums in general that are not covering the topic/industry/market that your website does.

It gets even better - in some cases 20 forums can become a better traffic source than G if you will post there regularly and honestly share your opinion and expertise.

It's safest to go with 3 backlinks in the signature, which most forums that permit them would not find excessive. Your four considerations should be 1) ranking with Google, 2) ranking with Bing/Yahoo et al, 3) getting non-SEO, relevant link clickthrough traffic, and 4) getting "set-it-and-forget-it" traffic from 2, 3, 4.

Google changes what it says it likes or wants so frequently, it has become unreliable in delivering long term traffic. The other search engines are *much* more stable and easier to rank your pages, based on all the standard bearer techniques (forums, articles, etc) that Google may disparage as "spam." Use forum backlinks to rank your site in the other engines, so that with Google out of the way, you can get quality rankings that won't fade with time.

Thats a good point ! Everyone tends to forget the other search engines and just goes for the big G. SO are you saying Melprise that the 'old' techniques still hold water with other search engines?

Basically yes, things that nobody viewed to be 'spam' SEO before until Matt Cutts decreed it so for Google, are still fine methods for Bing/Yahoo. I'd say 90% of IM work is fixated on Google, meaning the competition for ranking on B/Y is MUCH less tough--which in turn, makes it much easier to rank high for and stay ranked high. The absence of rapid-fire algorithm updates with the other SEs means its easier to manage, since there's no continuous adjustments to make.

This restores a "set it and forget it" long term aspect to SEO if you build it right the first time, instead of the "gerbils constantly working to improve Google's product" model of non-stop labor of ranking for Google. No penalties, sandbox, dances and other nonsense = more stability.
