    Does Page Rank really matters? Even a website with PR0 can outrank PR7 sites in Google SERPs, anything is possible. We cannot say that high PR sites will always outrank PR0 sites, but it's not. As long you build good relationships to your readers and viewers, for sure your website (even with PR0) will be having more traffic and authority than the high PR websites.

    I dont focus too much on the PR as it is not always correct. I just aim to rank on the first page for a keyword of my choice.

    I believe this would be possible. You can increase your PR in a less minimum time.
    I would just like to find out what are those possible method(s)? I am also interested to know what is working for year 2014 onwards. Thanks.

    The simplest way is find a high PR blog page with open dofollow comment section (PR6+) that is not spammed.
    Post your comment. One PR 6 link is enough to significantly up your current PR if it is below 3.

    Google PR is completely depended on quality backlinks so the only shortcut is to build quality backlinks.

    Remember these points before you start Linkbuilding -

    Not to go for Directory submissions, Article Submissions and bookmarking.

    Get backlinks from high PR informative sites or blogs; to get links from such sites you can be a guest author for those sites.

    Create Web 2.0 Pages, infographics and videos to get links.

    Also You can do some blog comments.

    Posting original content on regular basis and making backlinks from broadbase. The site you select for making backlinks should have high pr and should be niche to your blog.

    If you want to increase the page rank, you have to work on a do follow link and quality websites. Submit the link on the same niche websites which have high page rank

    here are my recommendations:

    1. Submit your site to only high pr high authority do follow directories.
    2. Post unique articles only to high pr article directories like ezinearticles, goarticles etc.
    3. Post unique articles to web 2.0 sites like hub pages and squidoo.
    4. Get backlinks from old, high pr high authority blogs or real websites
    5. Get contextual backlinks from edu and gov sites

    I would like to focus on sites content, if you have a rich and relevant content than you will be surely awarded by pagerank, because Google Loves content and remember Content is king. After hummingbird update content is become a crucial and vital part of SEO, I believe.
