Getting Links

So, for me, and I'm assuming for you, the hardest part of SEO is actually getting your site popular on the net (backlinks and etc from high PR sites).

For those of you that would say you're pretty good at this, what are ways you'd recommend to use to get high amounts of backlinks to your site. Like everyone says use social networks such as Facebook, Twitter, and Youtube. But is there a limit to how much links you should post from them in a certain time span or something? Like would it eventually become flooding? Like what exactly is the best strategy to getting backlinks? Both from social networks and other sources?

Getting links is not necessarily the hard part, and you're not always looking for "high amounts of backlinks." Anyone can get a link to their site. One of the harder aspects is structuring and arranging the links in a way that will benefit the site. Everyone will always say to make sure your anchor text is perfect, etc. However, that's more like saying make sure your window curtains look beautiful even if your house is built on sand.

I agree fully with @Iconiplex. When creating backlinks, you'll want:
    1. High PR/PA/DA sources that have relevant content to your site. Your sources must have:
      1. Clean backlink profiles. This is huge.
      2. Hosted on separate hosts
      3. Good Trust Flow, CF
      4. etc
    2. A steady link velocity: Don't hit your site with tons of links at once. Spread them out
    3. Anchor text diversity. These days branded and URL anchors should constitute most of your anchors. But the ratios differ between EMDs, PMDs, and branded sites
    4. Alternate sources of backlinks for diversity. People argue about which sources are best to establish diversity, but I only link to my site from private high PR networks, web 2.0 and social bookmarks
    5. Decent flow of social signals to make everything look legit
As you can see, this takes some thought. And its more than likely that you'll make some mistakes while you're getting your blueprint down. Feel free to PM me. I can help you out with all of this.

Fully agree with you... Moreover, it's much harder to KEEP your ranking on the top, so getting those backlinks is NOT so hard as INCREASING them in a time manner! ;)
