I 'd say it depends what you're training me to do. In general it's helpful to have both video and text.

I prefer video based training. You can look at the video again if you missed anything rather with text based learning sometimes you have to read the whole piece over just to find what your looking for.

Sometimes infographics work better than both text or video.

Try to explain something like this by text or video alone:

The future is using both medium; Video and Text based training.
I see it from another perspective. When talking we usually talk at
    200 - 250 words/minute but when you read it's much higher.
In shorter period of time I can process more info through text
based training than in Video based training.
But of course you sometimes need detailed explanation which
    you get from Video.

I personally prefer text than video for training. Sometimes the videos are lenghty and most of the time they are not upto the exact information required.

I definitely prefer something visual. That said, I have found that many video-trainings are too slow for me. Eventually I just get annoyed by the amount of time I have to spend learning the most basic things. In those cases I leave YouTube and look for a good text guide, in which i can skip around or do some more in-depth reading if I want to understand something better.

I would go side by side for both. Both the techniques are helpful in their own ways. Starting with Visual and getting the basic idea and than moving on to detailed texts is something that helps me the best.

Go with visual "photos" and a video training, much better and fastest to understand, text based training on helpful in case something you want to get training is code and programming related!

Video because for most people it is easier to understand and more interactive.

Both serve a different purpose to different audiences. If the training includes more technical elaboration (e.g programming, data and analytical presentation) about the topic then a text-based will be really helpful.

Videos are good for visual presentation and if you are creating a step by step trainings. Just my thought. :)

I generally prefer text-based. I seem to not have the patience to watch or listen to videos. However, screencaps to show different steps are always helpful.

Both have their place. I read much faster than I watch and it is often difficult to find the exact place in a video for what you are looking for. But the text sometimes needs pictures/screenshots to clarify what I am learning. And as for physical skills, nothing beats hands-on training, but you cannot learn a physical skill by reading about it. It is like learning to swim by lying on a chair and waving your arms. haha.

I prefer text for most things, but if it's a complicated task for me - especially something manual such as learning a new guitar song or how to, say, swap iPhone screens, video is my preferred training method. Sometimes, you can offer both. I have a client who does continuing education credits for nursing home staff. She makes videos but supplements them with text so her customers can follow their preferred path for most of the training. If you're doing videos, you're (probably) writing a script, so it's a snap to turn your script into a text tutorial. Best of luck! :)
