Hello all,
I have to mention that building backlinks is not harming your website - the way of how you promote and submit them are affecting.
When you try to create more authority to your website you must be careful, you need to follow at least:
- don't use spam websites - that BL will never be indexed even worst will penalize your site
- don't try to fast index your BL - will work in like 1% of cases with good results
- as above was said don't make many BL for your MAIN site - try to promote your sub-pages as targeted keyword
About using software or not, here is a different story - are many software on the market that we doing only spam, but there are others that are capable to help you in time to grow you BL quantity without harming your MAIN site.

Creating Link and Links. Don't create links to gain ranking although create Brand Name so that people start searching your name on google.

 

In present time, Google is biggest source of unique and organic visitors as if we are looking good ranking on google search engine. We shoud avoid spamming and bulk submission. We have to focus on thematic linking and quality work, as per the google algorithm. Otherwise google will penalized your website and you will never get better ranking on Google search engine. We should be follow google guidelines.

 

use disavow tool and remove all inactive(expired,suspended)domains .. also PR 0 sites . Try to make quality and high PR backlinks

 

No black or grey hat SEO, no guest blogging and even maintaining a distance from spun content. Attention should be given to good and limited on page optimization and original and useful content regularly updated

 

Here is few of my list!

1. linking with pr less sites useless
2. link exchange with poor sites is useless
3. using black hat softwares is useless
4. using fake likes and followers on social sites is useless
5. purchasing temporary traffic is useless

Avoid those things and go for social networking with real people, join professional forums share details, do link exchange with bigger pr sites, do link directories submission, go with professional SEO softwares such as IBP! and do some inner SEO for site! and use some adwords type ads site to promote your business on your time!

 

Frankly told you that Always follow "GOOGLE GUIDELINE"" and strictly avoid Black Hat SEO techniques whether it is cloaking, keyword stuffing, doorway pages, spam back links and one more thing try to follow Google Matt Cutt Blog where you get all the valuable and updated Google Info !!!!

 

Don't write/buy crappy articles w/ backlinks in them.
Don't get cheap SEO from sites like SEOClerks.
Don't link to your site/content excessively - And make sure EVERY link to your site that you put in content is relevant to the reader.

 

I want to suggest you that if you want to avoid some SEO activities then those should be low quality backlinks, don't submit one article into different articles sites because it will be consider as a spam and don't comment on those blogs that are not related to your website theme and products.

 

Avoid the spam posting in any website.No duplicate content posting,it is just like a spam posting.Avoid the posting in low pr website.

 

Do all techniques of Seo. Just avoid spamming.

What i learned from some past days that do not over optimizated pages, remove all low pr backlinks, submit unique article every time to new hr pr article directory and blogs.

Just couple of days ago Moz whote Friday report says that Google is continously watching our links
specially those links on which wr have
Control like aurthor links under blog post article links, profile links etc

Avoid over on page optimization and for off page, make only quality backlinks. Focus on quality not quantity. Try to make backlink in niche and high PR sites.

 

I think we should avoid all black hat techniques which manipulates search engine guidelines. Apply KISS formula while optimizing your website it means "Keep it Safe & Secure". Getting few links from 1st grade site is much better than getting too many links from 3rd grade sites.
