Security: Safari vs Google Chrome

My friend recently told me "I think it's very likely that your computer was infected with some search scam that redirected you to that site", regarding a site where I was conned into downloading some malware. He suggested I switch from Safari to Google Chrome, because it's "safer". I assumed that Safari was safer, because it's a smaller target than Google Chrome. But I'm a complete novice, no programming skills, and truly know nothing. Should I follow his advice?

both of them are better its just about the addons you have installed i think that you might have installed some addons that has breached your privacy !! Chrome is a bit more safer because Google is checking each and everything out every time .... :)

Chrome is great and gets patched regularly. Just make sure you don't download any questionable addons/plugins/extensions

Yea they can be annoying to remove. Sometimes, removing from the extensions list doesn't work. :(

I use Chrome for almost everything now, and I believe it to be the best browser out there. It's simple, fast and elegant. It also has a nice range of add-ons for internet marketing. I don't use Safari as I don't have a Mac, but it seems good too. If you find yourself with unwanted ads, disable any add-ons or extensions.

Neither will be safe if you put your system at risk by downloading dodgy software and clicking "install" or "ok" to every button that pops up. Check what your homepage in the browser is - these often get changed to something with an affiliate code. Uninstall any extensions you don't use or can't remember installing.

Go to your control panel and find the uninstall programs page. Uninstall anything with the same name as an extension you've deleted in the previous step.

Search your file system using Windows Explorer for "babylon" and "whitesmoke" to clear out any junk left behind by these particularly insidious programs.
