PR4 - may no longer be a Priority for Prioritized Backward Links

    Link Popularity

    Popularity of Links (PR4+)

It seems ESPECIALLY in this LAST Update that a significantly MORE number of PR3 and occassionally PR2 are being displayed

There was Always an occassionaly few - but NOW...

It may be that there technology/ algorithms are advancing to a point where there is Greater Analysis capability of LINKS - less painting with a broad brush

PageRank really can't be correlated with the current back links, since PageRank has not been updated in over a month now, while back links have. So you can't really know if the current back links are PR-anything yet because they don't have their most recent PR data showing publicly.

I think people forget that Google takes PR and back links into account long before they are reported publicly.

It never was a priority. Everbody who understands backlinks realizes two things.

    1. Every page that links to you contributes to your PR value. Yes, you need more links from lower value pages to achieve any given value, but there was never anything wrong with linking to PR2 or PR3 pages. In any case they may turn out to be the PR6 pages of tomorrow.

    2. The real value of inbound links for the last two or three years has been the relevance factor that it contributes to the target page. This is what Google uses to determine SERP placement. This is a function of anchor text and possibly the theme of the link page.

So people who refused to exchange links with pages less than RR4 just didn't understand this or know what they were doing.

BTW if you want to understand more about PR read my article Google PageRank & How to Get It

Hey I love it... please make it available in every cinema and on TV
make it part of the school education and mandatory on every menu in every restaurant......
It keeps so many people busy, entertained and in the dark that otherwise these people would do real work or may put their conciderable brainpower to invent a real searchengine.... we can't have that .. can we?

And when your PR0 resource page gets to a 5 or 6 or more, and these same folks come calling on you, there is a great deal of satisfaction in saying, "Thanks, but no thanks."

Sometimes the green bar gives us our laugh for the day. In my e-mail this morning was a pitch for a site that wanted to redo my web, which web he did not say. Looked at his site and it was not even ranked by Google. If someone does not even have a green bar how long and how hard have they worked? :)

I received a link request and checked the site to find their link page had a PR5, but no google cache? and it looked like they had way too many links already on their page.

Would you agree that we should pass on that link?

Something is wrong with this picture. I can't imagine Google bestowing a PR5 ranking on a site that isn't even in their index. That's what no cached copy means. It means they don't even know about the site and it isn't in their index. Or they may have penalized the site and removed it from their index, but in either case it isn't going to have a PR5 under those circumstances.

a few days ago - after several weeks away on remote island - i rechecked again my google results with

Search Engine Keyword and Back Link Tracker

and found interestingly that the number of backlinks is now less than half of what it was several weeks ago during my previous check.

however ! the traffic goes steadily up and SERPS for all 300+ checked keywords remain the same as ever with the usual smallest ups and downs like ever before.

however if checking backlinks with other SE ( alexa or any other ) i have - and always had - far more back links than with Google.

while it affects traffic or SERPS in no way - i still would love to understand why the drastically reduced number of shown backlinks ...

any idea or similar experience pls ??

the pagerank dance is due out in days - if previous patterns hold true

if seems that Pagerank4 although a visible priority if the external links are from a frequently spidered home page with a high pagerank - the Under PR4 backwards links will be visible

Great Post Bob - right on target, but it seems to have been glossed over in the rush to understand what the criteria for exchanging links should be now.

Everyone has their blinders set to short term only. Long term, if that page is actively looking for recips then the pr of it will grow as time goes on, meaning you will end up deriving a lot more value than you at first expect. I'll trade links with any old pr1+ site any day.
