The % in which a target keyword appears in a block of content or web page in relation to the other words on the page basically.

Its not something I have given much thought to in years. There are a few practices to follow in general but overall its a myth.

Here is a vid from years ago summing this up.

    hope that helps,
    Nigel

I would only add that nowadays it's more important to use different variations of the main keyword, rather then to try to repeat it as often as possible.

I meant that if your main keyword is "real estate", you should use both this keyword and: houses, apartments, house, home etc. Is it's "car rental", then you should optimize your website for: car rental, cars, auto, renting cars, volvo, bmw etc. Just use the synonyms, plural and singular form of your keywords.

Keyword density refers to the percentage or ratio of keywords exists within the total number of index able words within a webpage.
It is Important for your Main Keywords to have the correct keyword density to rank better in Search Engines. Keyword density ratio varies from search engine to search engine.

    • The recommended keyword density ratio is 2 to 8 percent.
    • Maintain quality for Keywords as it is very important more than keyword quantity because if we have keywords in the page title, the headings, and in the first paragraphs this count more.
    • Don't repeat same keywords
    • We may have same keyword density as our competitor's web site but if we have keywords in the URL, this will boost our website ranking incredibly.

It would be perfect if you next time you spent a few minutes and read other topics about keyword density. People gave you an answer, so I hope this is NOT the REAL question you would like to ask! :)

Keyword is one of the probably 200 metrics that are used to rank websites.

Basically, it is the ratio of number of times your keyword appears on the webpage to total number of words.

At the dawn of Internet, keyword density was an important metric to rank a page. This lead to a widespread use of keywords on webpages by webmasters and marketers. However, this also lead to scamming practices like keyword stuffing where webmasters started 'stuffing' their keywords inordinately in their webpages.

Nowadays, a 1 to 3% keyword density is considered to be optimal. Anything more than that may lead to Google Penalty.

    How is it calculated?

    Formula: Keyword Density% = (Nkr * Nwp/Tkn)*100

Nkr = Number of times specific keyword is used.
Nwp = Number of words in the phrase
Tkn = Total number of words.
