Simply you are creating useful content on regular basis, you will get what you want...but you have to provide quality content.. you don't have to give much time or think much about link building. Regular content creation will work to update your website and it will fulfil the need of link building too.

Instead of creating content on other websites, web 2.0 sites, you should create content within your website for better result.

If your site is new, it will be good if you don't build links on home page, because it has become very suspicious, it may get penalized due to a little imbalance in link building.

Well, I guess my strategy for ranked better is still the same since few years ago.

I am glad Search engine love my posts and praise my site. If it is not because of the strategy above, I don't know what will happen to my sites.

The key are:

1. Don't think to dominate the others. Others already think about it.
2. Think how to optimize the site.
   More than 50% site were not ranked better because of their own fault. At least, in my research, lots of sites could be ranked better but unnoticed internal errors cause them to be ranked lower. What is unnoticed internal errors? It is my term to classify sites which cause unnoticed problem such as permalink issues, server issues and lots of errors related with site performance. Using good looking theme but having wrong standard programming and excessive loading unneeded element may degrade overall performance.
3. Use the best tools whenever possible. Tools in this term mean hosting infrastructure and great environment.
4. Don't just read my post.
   The more you read my opinion, the more possibility you would confuse. Just do trial and errors and you will get the real answer. That is what webmaster did to get the answer on how to be ranked better. They told me about it in the past and I do the same thing to you at this time.
5. Don't forget to say the same thing whenever anyone asking you on how to get their sites ranked better in search engine.
