I believe www.AMCY.org might get his idea here

I've done that for a long time, right now I'm testing new tricks and so far the result is excellent. You can see the screenshot for the old and new tricks below

On my screen you don't have to scroll down to see the links. I have to imagine that the increase is partially due to the fact that the images are appropriate for the ads. It's pretty difficult to do in a lot of market niches, but your example is perfect!

I would say you could try putting it above or below the "Woohoo! 340,000 Pigs in the Gallery" block for slightly better exposure - especially on smaller screens.

    Nice alang.

NevetS, you are prob right, but I am happy to loose some clicks for the sake of having the onsite links above the fold. I think the CTR would not go up by much by moving the ads up the page. And I do not want people clicking off the site before they do anything on my site.

Yeah, we have to test from our experience to optimize adsense on our site. You can't learn it from anywhere, even from the expensive ebook that you buy. The best tips is trial and error, because different site work differently

So lets see.... it seems like part of the effectiveness of this little strategy has to do with the level of detail and complexity of the actual images that are placed above the ad units.

The draw a pig site uses hand drawings that are placed above them.
Those cartoon like drawings have a lot of intricate detail in them.. and that seems to be an attractor for the wandering eyes.. and then BINGO, they see the adsense ad too...

If you just use photographs or boring standard images I imaging maybe it will not be as effective...

So, just thinking aloud... I think the images I put above my adsense ads will be hand drawn with a tablet! just need to make the image similar to the theme of the site...

    cool!

Just for fun I put a little picture beside the AS at my lingerie blog. I'll see if it makes any difference to CTR and, if it does I will try to do a slightly better integration job...because the ones I've seen here are brilliant.

    Thanks for the tip

I dont think that it is cos they are hand drawn, I think it is more that (other than the logo) they are the only other image elements on the page.

Now I do have pages that do have 50+ hand drawn images on them AND my adSense images, but they still stand out because I have taken them into photoshop and put them on a pink background with white inside the lines of the drawing, thus making them like nothing else on the page.

I think the photoshop example posted here earlier will do well.

Interesting...the little images on either side of the adsense code on my lingerie blog have added 50% to the overall CTR for the site...

    Thank you DPers!

did not work for me, in that it did not make me look at the ads.

you would need to put images that match the ads above the ads or to the side of the ads... if you put it to the side, put it on both ends and use the 2 ad unit ads

You would have to match the images to the page. so oil lamps on that page, and images of rugs on this page http://www.gardenstew.com/store/item-r-1-s-959120.html

Its complex on a site like that, as you cant just put any old images above the ads as they are different in each section, and you cant put random rug images, they are not the product they clicked on or will get if they click the ad.

I don't think this method is for this type of site.

Thanks for the quick reply Critters,

I have just made the change so I think I will leave it over the weekend to see how it affects the CTR. I will report back on the progress.
