As always, the text content of a page/site is absolutely the #1 priority. This is where everything begins, engaging the visitor and providing information for Search Engines to understand what it is that you do.

Forget everything else when it comes to SEO (link building, social media, images, design, advertising, marketing...) if you don't have anything on your site deserving of an audience there is no point to any of it.

Create content to engage the audience, provide what they need and promote yourself to them as an authority, the rest comes later.

In my humble opinion, SEO has two parts:

First, you need to make sure you have a very strong on-page SEO set up.
Next, you need to hunt for intelligent recommendations from similar sites on the Internet.

Conran is right when he says that your articles need to be good. A professional site with good information will certainly helpyou get links faster and better than any "made for Adsense" site with "filler" information you might build.

I'm not sure what you mean. It all starts with the on-site content you have.
When it comes to how to create that content, you should pretty much ignore the old out-dated rules around use of keywords. By that I mean that the notion of repeating something a certain number of times in the text is a dead notion. These days, it's much better to write naturally, creating variations in the keyword usage. Google has become very smart at deciphering what is manipulative and what is natural, creating natural content without focusing on keywords in any deliberate way is now the best method of writing.

If you mean to ask what to do to gain traffic after you have some content, I would suggest several things...
    1. Encourage readers to sign up to a newsletter.
    2. Encourage comments by asking readers for their opinions.
    3. Create social media accounts with the same branding.
    4. Use those accounts to interact with people, not to simply shout in crowded rooms hoping you'll be heard.
    5. Create compelling images to share to encourage clicks from social media (images are becoming increasingly important for generating interest and clicks).
    6. Give readers every opportunity to share your content with others.

This is, in my opinion, the right way to go about developing a new site. There are others who will try to sell you PR5 links, sell you advertising, tell you to spam your site all over the net... nothing beats natural development of your site, and nothing can beat genuine audience interest.

On page is the first and most important role on SEO,
    (Content, keywords,meta tags etc..)
Coming to Off-page Quality content for Guest posting, social media promotions, blog commenting, Article submissions etc.
[Must follow the Google Guide lines for SEO- WHITE HAT SEO].

I would say that SEO is not only the improvement of the website, but also the website itself. The content is the king of your empire. Make sure you use good keywords in h tags and give the pages at least 300 words. After that, do some on-page optimization and look at the page speed. When going to off-page optimization, I would recommend to use article marketing on directories and blogs.

It's important to recognize that on-page SEO and the use of keywords has changed over the last year, and many are still behind.
In my work, I have seen clear examples of pages and sites doing far better without repetition of keywords.

Google has changed, it has become able to see content within the contextual relationship of other site content. You do not need to repeat the same keyword in text, as a post or page is backed-up and supported by the nature of other content on the site.

For example, if you have a site about cellphones, you do not need to repeat a brand name three times in a post, once is likely enough for Google to see that you are talking about a brand on a site that is all about that line of products. It used to be that people would choose a keyword, add it to the title, repeat it three times in the text (obviously depending on the length of the text) and then add tags and so on too. This is no longer relevant and might actually be doing you harm.

The best solution is to just write naturally, create a common-sense flow of text (identify the problem, offer the solution, provide the benefits) and do so in a natural way that delivers your message, while engaging the audience through personality, knowledge and even humor.

Beyond the technical aspects (page load time, bounce rates, audience engagement and image optimization etc) on-page SEO is about being genuine and natural in your writing.
