    I would imagine it's mostly fake traffic from bots (makes sense if they're selling fake fans).

    What element01 said. It's nothing but bot traffic. In the past this whole fake traffic thing was hot (let's say if you needed a ton of fake Twitter followers to boost your reputation, etc.). But both FB and Twitter have caught on and those fake fans don't stick for too long anymore. And there's a chance of being banned for adding too many fake fans/followers.
