    Hello Every one,

As I am newbie in SEO field please suggest me what to do.....!!! :(
On the release of Penguin 2.1 On Friday, October 4, 2013. My site SERP has been fallen down but not been penalized.

Suppose if we change the anchor text of the previously submitted article that has been published but not change the url.
    than
    1) what will happen to my ranking ?
    2) Doing this (changing Anchor text) is a spam or not ?
    3) Is these changes will be notice by the Google ?
    4) If this is a spam than plz suggest me what to do to improve my site SERP ?

    Thanks in advance.

You need to look at Google Webmaster Tools and see what it says. Usually it will tell you if there are 'spammy' backlinks or other issues, as Google sees it, for you to try to resolve.

Also, when there are major changes to the Google SE, everyone is effected. Your loss in SERP position could be because your competitors went up, while you stayed the same. Also, you will probably see lots of fluctuation over the coming weeks. Have patience and keep writing original content.

I agree with above poster - check out GWT first to see if there are any penalties or warnings laid on the site - if not, you're likely not a huge offender for the 2.1 update. Even so, other people may have dropped out of the rankings, pushing previously unranked sites into the top 10. You can also check your anchor text diversity with a tool like Ahrefs and see if you're heavy on any particular phrases - if so, you can:

    1. Build more links with more natural anchors, diversifying your portfolio
    2. Change the existing anchor texts to be more diversified.

    Hope that helps!

Exactly, first check GWT then after that build some links with you anchor (old one) and some generic, I wouldn't change that old anchor, just go with it and it will be good

Not to miss-lead new comers, Google WMT will only show manual spam actions.

Here is a list by Google showing the types of manual actions covered: https://support.google.com/webmasters/topic/2604771?hl=en&ref_topic=2371401

I've a domain/site penalized by penguin due to over-optimization and its not showing any messages in WMT :)

Make sure your anchor text is specific and must be related to your domain.

Agree that you should check out GWT first.

As for anchor text of your links, you need to keep it maximally diverse. As anchor text for your links you may use:

    • Branded keyword phrases (for example, your company name)
    • Exact match SEO keywords based on the search queries for which you are optimizing your site for;
    • Generic phrases, like “Click here”, "Download here", etc.

Also, analyze your competitors links to see how they are diversifying there anchors.

Changing the anchor text in one single article will not change much for your website... SEO is not the work you do once and then forget about it - you have to constantly update your website, and keep an eye on competitors, while you practice off-page optimization.

Use the advice from previous posters and you will be on the right way. :)

Use only the targeted keywords for building backlinks and don't dilute the anchor texts.

Don't worry about going back through your previous links and changing anchor text. If you did over-optimize your anchors using main keywords, beginning building links using more diverse anchors as @Kianu42 suggested (20-30% main keywords, 20-30% tertiary/related keywords, 20-30% generic, and some naked url's). It's also a good idea to throw in some contextual links out to other niche related, high authority sites. This helps to boost the relevancy of your own links and creates a more natural, diverse link profile within your web properties/articles.
