They are not the same Hostgator they used to be. They were bought out by a company called EIG, which is known for buying out large hosts and running them into the ground. They used to be pretty good.

As the company management has been changed working policies seems to be creating much difference among their support and performance. They had great management team prior when they were not under EIG group. But now a lot of things have been changed according to new management.

Does changes have been flowing toward the downside? It's unfortunate enough.
I'm planning to buy a hosting from them. But this thread discouraging me to do so.

Hostgator used to be a very good hosting provider but last years they are one of the worst hosting providers in the world. I will never get back to using hostgator hosting services.

hostgator is piece of crap now and only concentrate on referrals and ads rather than customers requirements & satisfaction.

Its true that Hostgator faced two longer outrages in the recent months, also fails to give support ticket reply within time. But we still expect great service from them, after all... hostgator is HostGator !!!

I have never had a problem with them. I think they are fine. I've also never had to contact tech support.

I am not commenting on their customer service. I am commenting on the service they provide. I have never had any issues... I believe their service is fine... However I have never had to contact their customer service department.

I believe that service of webhosting provider nowadays is a combination of technical support skills and stability/performance of servers, so if something of these two is bad so overall service is bad.

I have not seen any significantly good recommendation for Hostgator. If possible, go with another service provider - I can recommend you 1-2 which are reliable, cheap and good.

You can try Bluehost or Justhost - both of which are cheap, yet reliable with customer service support. It should be also within your budget.

Bluehost and Justhost are owned by the same company that owns Hostgator...EIG. So no, Bluehost and Justhost are not good options either.

Oh really!!?? I have accounts with them, but no idea when they were being acquired by EIG.

Would you have any information or any reference where I can get more information about the acquisition?

I stopped using HostGator due to poor support years ago. I used Bluehost for a while they were bought buy EIG it did notice any changes other the the affiliate support is almost nonexistent now and I have noticed a few slow times scene EIG has taken over. but the regular hosting support I have haven't had a problem with.

You might want to refer to http://www.webhostingchoose.com/business/all-endurance-international-web-hosting-brands/

EIG prefers not to disclose any information regarding their acquisitions, hence it might take some time to search for the information.

Host Gator has not been in the best favor with its customers recently. There are still many good mid-sized web hosting companies that care about the quality of service and do provide affordable and reliable web hosting plans.
