I have bought one domain, and wondering if there is any difference (in terms of security, quality or any of the other parameters) between having a website called http://ABCD.com Code (markup): and http://www.ABCD.com Code (markup): ? Because of it, some of my scripts are not working with http://ABCD.com Code (markup): . I've been reading on the godaddy FAQ, but there is no information about this difference. Looking forward to your suggestions, Shadab'
Technically www is just a subdomain, There are absolutely no difference on any level (SEO, Security etc) in using domain without www You can see the various petition going on here : http://no-www.org/ http://www.yes-www.org/ Some scripts are hard coded to use www but you can easily use a permanent redirect to make them work.
Yes presently, this what i am using 301 redirect for this issue. and the issues seem to vanished. but i was looking for a solution, like making the adjustment with DNS server itself. how about creating a new entry for www. and pointing the same to without www version.
Like others said - it's just a matter of taste and there is no difference in terms of SEO, security, whatsoever. You should only make sure to decide for just one of the two options and once you decided, use 301 redirects to redirect all non-www requests to www or the other way around. Otherwise you might run into issues because of duplicate content.
www stands for World Wide Web, theoretically its just a sub domain. Some sites sound/look better with www. whereas some don't.
There's no difference, it's just a choice you do when configuring your site. Google has stated that you should choose one to avoid duplicate content penalties.
