Having a WordPress site that loads quickly and is always up is essential to having a successful WordPress site. You'll definitely benefit from the PHP-FCGI and XCache if you bundle WordPress with a plugin like W3 Total Cache. Make sure the hosting you use has a "W3 Total Cache-friendly" configuration, which will allow you to get full benefits out of your WordPress caching plugin. Web users are well known for having a short attention span and a slow website can severely hurt your online business.

Make sure you choose a good host and not one owned by EIG (as they way oversell resources).

    Hosts Owned by EIG:

    2slick
    A Small Orange
    AccountSupport
    ApolloHosting
    Berry Information Systems
    BizLand
    BlueDomino
    Bluehost
    Dollar2Host
    Domain.com
    DomainHost
    Dot5Hosting
    Dotster
    EasyCGI
    eHost
    EntryHost
    FastDomain
    FatCow
    FreeYellow
    Glob@t
    Homestead Technologies
    HostCentric
    HostClear
    HostGator
    HostMonster
    HostNine
    Hostwithmenow
    HostYourSite
    HyperMart
    IMOutdoors
    Intuit Websites
    iPage
    iPower
    iPowerWeb
    JustHost
    MyDomain
    MyResellerHome
    NetFirms
    NetworksWebHosting
    Nexx
    PowWeb
    PureHost
    ReadyHosting
    Saba-Pro
    SEO Hosting
    Southeast Web
    Spry
    StartLogic
    SuperGreen Hosting
    USANetHosting
    VirtualAvenue
    VPSLink
    WebHost4Life
    Webstrike Solutions
    Xeran
    YourWebHosting

I would not recommend any of those.

@bitrontic, might be easier to list the few good companies that *aren't* owned by EIG.

Yeah, it's unfortunate. Between them and GoCrappy, how much of a market share the behemoths control.

yeah, your right. They do control the majority of the market, but for all of their faults, there is one good thing about them; being that those companies didnt vanish overnight screwing over their clients, and will likely be around for a while to come (even if they merge some of the brands together). But the rest of the market that they dont control is for the most part filled with kids, scammers and the like and finding the few gems that are reliable is really difficult for most people. Its compounded when everyone has affiliate links, meaning that often any recommendation is biased (if not bogus)-> and this is why I am reluctant to recommend my own company, as its biased. Its up to my users to make recommendations for my company on my behalf.

right now theres hosting offers and threads on this forum here which I would be inclined to call a scam, (or it could be they are doing a "pump n dump"). But if I was to drop a genuine recommendation for a company that I have tried in the past, such as ferngullygraphics.com, because he has been around for years and years and is "old style" when it comes to site design - everyone judges his site (which I agree is crap) but they are not judging the service that he provides. At the same time these people that will avoid a good, solid, reliable provider thats been around for 10+ years, will themselves tend to sign up with anyone pretending to be a host that has an attractive website thats been in business for a few hours or at most, a few days.

Well in one way I feel you Matt62. However as a small web host who has been working to build a good business since 2007, I find it offending in some ways. Just because you are not running an Inc. 500 company does not make you a fly by night operation. There are a lot of scammers out there though (unfortunately this is true in all markets). Although this thread now seems to have digressed somewhat from the original topic. I make a point of not recommending myself, but instead giving people helpful tips on what to avoid.

@yize as long as you are happy with the hosting that is what matters, of course.

Use the Video streaming websites like YouTube to store the videos and use the WordPress video plugins to play the YouTube videos from your WordPress blog. This would save a lot of disk space and in the initial phase you may host your WordPress video blog from a shared hosting server. What is your budget for the WordPress hosting?

Sorry i didnt reply to this earlier.
I didn't mean for this to be offensive, (well not to you anyway). If you are an actual company that puts clients first (especially one thats been around since 2007), then you have my respect, as well as that puts you head and shoulders above the rest of the riff raff.

EDIT: here is a perfect and freash example of what I was talking about:
    http://www.shardhost.com/
    http://www.webhostingtalk.com/showthread.php?t=1321662

And this is why I started a hosting company, not to compete with good hosts such as yourself, but to raise the bar so to speak.

I prefer you to take Siteground or Hostgator. In my Experience these 2 hosting is great in speed, Uptime and Support. I hosted More than 10 Blogs.

I recommend the following (based on my personal experience):

    - Innohosting
    - Leaseweb
    - WPengine

They are not the cheapest but they are reliable. Remember that you get what you pay for.

There's a huge 75% discount coming up at hostgator. So why not try and get yourself a dedicated server..??? If it's too technical then get the business plan....

Get more details about the discount here. And yeah, it ends on 2nd December so if you are planning to get a hostgator account, this is the best time.
