Depending on the search term, I have used the following approach in the past:

• Knock the competitor off the first page by identifying other sites that you can post positive information about your NGO
  • Build links to these pages so that it becomes more powerful
• Create more related sites that you can then optimise for the key word/phrase
  • Build links to these pages/sites so that they knock the competitors down
• If the other site says something that is libellous (not true and causing you damage you can seek legal advice)

If you want to rank your website, at first comment some forum, comment posting site and add with your website link.

 

Yahoo. seems more easier, but less traffic....
