Page Rank will not be updated the rest of this year

Matt Cutts said that they will not update PR the rest of this year in his Pubcon speech. It's not high priority and no one is working on bringing it back. What's your opinion on this? I still see people looking for high pr links, but with no pr update, what's the next metric in line you will be looking for?

I think that PR is still relevant, especially to evaluate natural backlinks. Natural backlinks are often come from old webpages of reputable websites, therefore there is very high likelihood that the PR given back than in February 2013 is still relevant.

Page rank will be dead in the water some time next year.
No one except link sellers, site sellers, link buyers, site buyers, domain sellers and buyers, care about page rank any more.

Yes, you are right. There are some people who will still be happy if Google cancels its update. Backlink Seller who have made a lot of bucks in the quarter by selling high PR links will not have to worry as Google won’t be lowering their PR’s so they can go with the same link making more bucks for themselves. Google generally tends to lower PageRank from this type of strategies but it will not happen if no pagerank update rolls out.

I still don't get it... sometimes i see really crappy sites or domain names... with no incoming back links and they got a huge PR-status... What's going on with those domain names? There is no explanation for it...

Don't look at PR anymore. Last update was in February, there is no point.

They must have high PR backlinks that you can't see - what software are you using for research? - because the only way a page can obtain a high PR is by having links from high PR sites!

The pursuit of pagerank and then reselling it was the downfall to many in the SEO industry. It gave rise to many snake oil salesmen. There has been sort of a great cleansing that has happened in the last several months. That leaves a void, and opportunities will be created as a result. There is inevitably a boom after a shock. What form that will take I don't know. My advice is don't dwell on the past and see if you can spot the opportunity ahead.

I'm confused. I thought that PR calculation happened every time the site was opened - i.e. automatic. Are we saying it only happens on a three or four month basis? Anything from Google on this? TIA

No, the page link is reported (if you have that tool on your browser) every time, but it is only evaluated when Google runs its tool.

    HI.
This is the situation i really want to see where Google would continue with the regular update of the search rankings.
because majority of seo workers and companies are looking for their goal of page rank improvement.

who ever still thinking of PR should check the PR of top 10 on any search... its for years already that in many cases low PR sites are ranked higher.

It may also not in 2014 too. Mattcut replied about this in his twitter account "I would be surprised if that happened."

That was Matt Cutt's answer to the question whether it will be updated before 2014, not in 2014.

Yeah PR is not really a valuable domain metric these days, for me I see better results with working with aged domains and sites.
