Hummingbird update did not affect websites as much as how google interprets the queries that the user searches for.

For instance, if you search for who played spiderman, google will not return pages that have "who played spiderman" in their title or content, but instead will return the pages that contain the actor that played spiderman.

it is not a big seo update for websites, which is why it has passed almost unnoticeable.

It's not a penalty. Like Agent000, search Google and you will find some very good information regarding Hummingbird. If you actually do a Google search you will see Hummingbird in action (a big clue for you). It's not an update per se, but an architectural change. Stop being lazy and use your initiative.

    Hi CApulkit -
Just keep building pages as you always should have been and this won't be a problem.

Build good quality pages giving good information to your readers, optimise each page for a keyword phrase you have a chance of ranking for, do your on page SEO, and get a small number of high-quality contextual backlinks to it with varying anchor text.

Not forgetting to chuck in a bunch of low quality backlinks so your site doesn't look am balanced if anyone reverse engineers it (such as Google for example).

Do this and you won't have any fear from any Google updates.

It's the first algo update which places significant importance on semantic analysis.
